MP3 music problem
I have recently installed Pro X 5 Ultimate and have found that transferring mp3 music files from my collection of Kevin MacLeod copyright free music into the program now causes problems which I did not experience with pro X 4 and pro X 3. The music files do not play in clip mode even on the timeline but they do play in project mode. I notice that the installed music is in MP2 format. Can you help me overcome this problem?

Re: MP3 music problem
Normally people have difficulty with certain types of mp3 in successive versions of VS, but it is usually caused by the LAMEmp3 codec. But you say your music is mp2... Can you please right click on one of the clips either in the VS library window or in the timeline, and tell us exactly what it says about the audio.
And can you tell us whether it is all Kevin MacLeod tracks, or only a few? I have looked at his website, and downloaded a couple of tracks at random, and both were mp3. Moreover, both play in VS X5...

Re: MP3 music problem
Hello Ken,
The problem file is described as MPEG Audio Layer 3. I may have confused you by mentioning the 'installed' files as MPEG Audio Layer 2 which come with VS 5. I hope this clarifies the problem.

Re: MP3 music problem
Hi Ken,
I have several hundred MP3Kevin MacLeod copyright free music files and they all seem to exhibit the same problem when transferred into VS5. What happens when I click the play button the scrubber under the preview window pauses and then shoots to the end with no sound. The same thing happens on the time line. I hope that you can help.

Re: MP3 music problem
I just inserted some randomly selected video into the X5 (note it is X5 i.e. version 15, not/not VS5). And then I inserted one of the MacLeod clips into the music timeline. The latter played perfectly when I had the music clip selected and was playing in Clip mode i.e. only the music played. When I changed to Project mode, the video in the main timeline AND the music played, perfectly. So I cannot replicated your problem.
And the music played exactly the same (i.e perfectly) whether or not I had a video clip in the main timeline and whether I played in Clip or Project mode.

Re: MP3 music problem
Ken,
I have just downloaded a clip from Kevin MacLeod website, because I thought that maybe there was a fault with the mp3's that I already had in the computer. Unfortunately, it behaved the same as all the other MP3 clips. Have you any other suggestions? Should I contact Corel?
Thank you,
Col

Re: MP3 music problem
The only thing I can think of is that your computer does not have a working mp3 codec on it, which in this day and age should be virtually impossible. But you can google for a small, safe freeware program called GSpot. Install it and then, under Open, point it to one of the MacLeod clips. It will tell you if the relevant codec is installed.

Could you post the link to the clip you downloaded and which does not work?trethe wrote:Ken,

Re: MP3 music problem
I have occasional situations like this (using x4) where I don't hear the audio from a clip that does have audio. It has nothing to do with Kevin McLeod's royalty-free music (which I've used and is pretty good) and I can't say for sure what chain of events causes it. But sometimes when I try to listen to a clip other than what's on the main video timeline, I don't hear the audio. This is always fixed when I click on "Project" and play through the spot on the timeline where the momentarily silent audio is. Then I can go back and edit and all is well.
This doesn't happen all the time, but it does happen. So far, it's been an occasional annoyance but not a show-stopper.

Re: MP3 music problem
Ken,
Success! I reinstalled Corel Video Studio Pro X4 as well as leaving Pro X5 on the computer, and the mp3 music files now play in all modes in both programs, which points to the fact that when I uninstalled Pro X4 it removed a component that was absent when I installed ProX5. I hope that this is of some use to users that may encounter this problem in the future.
Many thanks for your advice and other members of the Forum.

Re: MP3 music problem
Glad that worked for you.
I have found that converting files to the uncompressed WAV format seems to eliminate a variety of problems such as yours.
Perhaps trying that option might be worth the effort.
