Hardware test?

Post by orion404 »

I created a one hour VCD project on my laptop and saved it as a 'image' file. Then did a burn to CD-RW from that image file.

The final result was a freeze-frame pic composed of multi-colored squares on my standalone DVD player.

Two repeats, same results.

Transferred the project and image files over to my desktop and did a burn form there and the disc provided excellent playback. Just about VHS quality with thumbnails, menu selection, etc.

Since the project and image file was created on the laptop and was eventually used to create a viewable disc, I don't think the software is the problem here.

Seems more like the burner might be an issue. Anyone know of a test for an all-in-one DVD player/CD-RW writer?

Thanks !

On further experimentation, have found I cannot burn a VCD on my desktop CD-R/RW writer with Ulead Movie Factory 3. Error message 'Disc is Full' comes up even with a new disc inserted.

However, I am able to burn the VCD on my desktop DVD burner with Ulead Movie Factory 3.

Since my laptop is a dual DVD Player/CD-RW writer, I'm thinking it may be the software after all.

Anyone know if the Ulead Movie Factory 3 is designed to burn ONLY with a DVD burner? If so, is there a Registry tweak or patch that would allow me to burn a VCD with a CD-RW burner?

I'm want to use up the 100s of CDs collected during the period just before the explosion of DVD discs on the marketplace, hence the interest in burning VCDs vs. DVDs.

I'm very satisfied with the video output of my video VCDs created with Ulead Movie Factory 3 and want to be able to use the laptop to do the authoring and burning so I can continue to use my desktop during the process.

I think it should be the disc compatibility problem with your burner/player, that's why I provide the 2 links to you to let you find out what disc media can be used with your burner and the player.

DVD Writer Compatibility List:

DVD Player Compatibility List:

FYI, I can burn VCDs in DVD MovieFactory 3 with my Plextor PX-S88TU CD-R/RW USB2 burner and Ritek 40X CD-R successfully.

Also please make sure you have downloaded the latest DVD MovieFactory Patches, Ulead Burning Engine Patch and the Ulead 16X Burning Pack and install them in order.

Hope this helps.
