group, organize or categorize fonts?

group, organize or categorize fonts?
Is there any way to group, organize or categorize fonts I have installed in PSP so that I can have only my new fonts in one place? I am having to pick through all my fonts in order to test them all out.. very hard!

Your aren't fonts installed in PSP. They're installed in Windows. There are lots of freeware font organizer programs for download online. Perhaps others will suggest their favorites. I use The Font Thing.

Re: group, organize or categorize fonts?
So how would I use paint shop to access specific lists of fonts?

Paint Shop Pro will be able to access any fonts that are either installed in the Windows font folder or that are installed or loaded temporarily with your font organizer program.

This program no longer works properly in Windows7 SP1, it can't remember where the fonts are that are not installed.LindaSue wrote:Your aren't fonts installed in PSP. They're installed in Windows. At this time, installing the freeware will not assure you that the fonts will be organize accordingly when you access them on PSP.

You can browse for them but in other versions of Windows and before SP1 in Windows 7, you didn't have to every time.LindaSue wrote:Are you not able to browse for them?ADonahoo wrote:This program no longer works properly in Windows7 SP1, it can't remember where the fonts are that are not installed.LindaSue wrote:Your aren't fonts installed in PSP. Re: group, organize or categorize fonts?
I have no problem installing new fonts directly into my windows, not sure why anyone would.. but I would definitely like to have ONLY my new fonts grouped together somehow.. I couldn't rename them, I was hoping to rename all my new ones to start with the same letter or symbol so they would be right next to each other within' my paint shop pro.
Does anyone know any tricks to accomplish what I am seeking? Thank you.

Re: group, organize or categorize fonts?
The Font Thing will work fine with Windows 7 if you install the version without the installer (it sounds odd but you have 2 downloads you can use, one with and one without the installer). Once you open the TFT progra, in W7, I always get an error popup window, but clicking OK makes it go away and the program works fine.
If you are using Windows XP, you only have to double-click on the font itself to open the window (where you can see all the letters), and PSP will be able to use it since you will see it appear in the pull down font list.
If you are using W7, you have to have the font visible in TFT for PSP to "view" it the same. I dont know about other font viewing programs.
If you are using Vista, i have no clue since i skipped that version.
Of course, if you want to install a font that you know you will use often, it is ok to put it in the Windows fonts. The problem is that it can add up and make it longer to find the one you want. TFT allows you to have "collections" so you can group the fonts you might use for work, versus fonts you might use for other projects or purposes.

Re: group, organize or categorize fonts?
I will try to find a program that will let me rename the fonts and add 1* to the beginning of all of them or somethin' like that.

Re: group, organize or categorize fonts?
I found a free font renamer program online but it sounds like it only changes the file names of your fonts. Changing the file name isn't the same as changing the actual name of a font. You can change the file names to anything you like but when you scroll through the font list in PSP, or any other programs that use text, you will still see the actual font name that's imbedded in the file. You'll need to find a program that will edit the name in the code. Whenever I need to do that, due to duplicate font names, etc., I use a very old font creator program called Softy. I don't know if it will run on Windows 7. I think it was written even before Windows 95 because it requires the old short DOS file names. When I use Softy, I have to temporarily give the font a short file name and then I just change it to the full name in Windows later. The name embedded in the font can be any length with Softy.cxskate wrote:I will try to find a program that will let me rename the fonts and add 1* to the beginning of all of them or somethin' like that.

Re: group, organize or categorize fonts?
I just tried this again and it works for me now. Not sure how long it will last though, since it worked then it didn't work and now it does. I already had the version without installer in my c:\applications folder where I put my old software.Cassel wrote:The Font Thing will work fine with Windows 7 if you install the version without the installer (it sounds odd but you have 2 downloads you can use, one with and one without the installer).
