Mercalli ProDAD problems with X4
Just completed my first full movie but I'm having problems with Mercalli. I have used it on a number of clips, having first dropped the Fx onto the respective clip, entered the options to run the analysis and the clips/project at this point look good. When I create a DVD the message shows on the respective clips that I need to run the analysis once more. What have I missed?

Re: Mercalli ProDAD problems with X4
That is what happens in VideoStudio when you use Mercalli to stabilize progressive, frame-based, video and share to a video format that uses interlaced fields. The profile for DVD is MPEG-2 interlaced.
Before you share to a DVD, you will need to flatten the clips with Mercalli by sharing them to a custom video format that allows you to select "frame-based" as the frame type. Then substitute those "flattened" video clips for the ones with Mercalli on the timeline.
Another solution might be to share the entire movie to an MPEG-2 video using a custom video format where you can select "frame-based" as the frame type, and then use the resulting video as the source for the DVD.

Hi
When you apply the Mercalli filter you must "customise" the filter to set the effect.
From the customise window there is an option to "Compare View"
You can try the splitscreen options but for the last scan you should select "Final Result"
When you view the clips within the timeline what you see is what you get in the final rendered video, make sure all reference to Mercalli and the "split screen" are not showing before creating your movie.
Double check the timeline content..........

Hi DWaldie
I may be wrong but just reading between the lines....
You have another post regarding Choppy playback on DVDs
This seems to be a NTSC Pal issue, the change in frame rate causing quality issues.
Using the Mercalli Filter is not going to improve that problem.
I would suggest you correct the "Choppy playback" before applying this filter.

Re: Mercalli ProDAD problems with X4
Cheers Lata. Choppy playback is sorted now. I've change to using NTSC.
I ran the customise setting and got the yellow tinged screen running through the clip for each of the clips in my timeline. So, I would have expected them to run fine.
To narrow the problem down I have loaded a 30fps clip recorded as a PAL clip. It's saved on my camera as an MP4 file. If I add this to my timeline and run Mercalli it runs fine as a clip or project. The problem comes when I try and share it. If I use a setting that is PAL compatible (25 or 50fps) the problems recur and advise me that analysis must be run again.
As with my choppy video problem it seems to be linked to saving anything (including DVD) in PAL. As my player runs NTSC disks fine, and it makes no difference to my PC, can I set VSx4 to default everything to NTSC? I'm hoping this will solve my problems. It's a real pain when the PC takes an hour to render the disk then it's faulty.
I've just tried to create a NTSC disk (@ 30fps) and the problem remains. It's looking like the only solution is to edit each clip individually, save as a compatible (30fps) clip and then open another project and reload it into the timeline. Not the best integrated plug-in!!

Hi
What "yellow tinge Screen"
After you have completed the customisation of the filter your screen and timeline should look normal, just as though you have not added the filter.
If you are seeing signs of the filter then these will also show after completing the movie.
--------------
Select a clip in the timeline, choose the Attributes tab, if the mercalli filter is showing in the panel choose customise.
From the new panel, Compare View--choose Final Result then OK
A new window may open Mercalli --Analyse Video--this will scan the clip.
When complete the clip in the timeline should look normal, the only indication of a filter being applied is from the Attributes Tab.
Run the Customise option for all your clips.

Re: Mercalli ProDAD problems with X4
The yellow tinge I refer to is the visible screen while Mercalli analyses the video by playing it through. It's definitely something to do with creating an output at a differnet frame rate as saving in any setting that is 30 fps (as the original) is fine, but not at 25/50fps, unless I save in Blue Ray @25fps. Weird.

Re: Mercalli ProDAD problems with X4
I've finally got it sorted (sort of). You can't use Mercalli then burn straight to disk. Something about preogressive etc. as shown here:

I suppose it makes sense to save a project to a file with the same hi-res attributes as the original clips and then use these clips in the DVD maker. Lost a day on that discovery. Thanks for your help anyway.
