image in aftershot not matching output--help!
I'm not sure if this is a Windows 7 64 but problem or not, but the image I see in Aftershot Pro 1.01 is not matching the output generated. I've tried creating version 4.0 and version 2.0 monitor profiles with Color Eyes Display Pro (selecting current system profile in the Aftershot preferences section) but in both instances, the image in Aftershot Pro is darker than when I view in Photoshop. The Aftershot Pro image has crushed shadows, but the resulting images have shadows that are more open.
Also, when I switch between the various soft-proofing options in Aftershot Pro nothing happens. Shouldn't I see the image change slightly as I toggle through these different selections?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I can already tell that this is going to be a great program, but to start offering constructive feedback to the development team, I would love to get this key issue sorted out.
Thank you!

Can you explicitly select the monitor profile instead of relying on the system profile? Just to make perfectly sure both programs use the same profile.ontariomark wrote:I'm not sure if this is a Windows 7 64 but problem or not, but the image I see in Aftershot Pro 1.01 is not matching the output generated. Use a printer profile for that test. Using the working space profiles will not show much difference on a typical sRGB screen. Also, when I switch between the various soft-proofing options in Aftershot Pro nothing happens. Re: image in aftershot not matching output--help!
Okay, so I tried manually selecting the current system display profile (the correct one had been manually selected) by turning off auto-selection and manually reselecting the same profile, but it still displays the same behaviour. ie. images in Aftershot darker than they appear in other applications. Also, I tried reloading the display profile using the ColorEyes Software, but this had no effect either. As a side note, my other raw converters are a perfect match--Silkypix 5 Pro, LR4, and DXO7.
Strangely, when I take a print-screen of the aftershot application, when I paste it into photoshop the resulting image does not match the one displayed in Aftershot. Again, the Aftershot image has clipped shadows, but the pasted image does not.
Another strange behaviour that may or may not be related, is that when I turn on either the standard sharpening or the wavelet sharpening, the shadows open way up when I crank up the sharpening (Noise Ninja registered sharpening exhibits the behaviour to a lesser degree (ie. less shadow lifting)). Again, the print screen rendering don't quite match the Aftershot rendition, but here is an example of minimum and maximum standard sharpening settings and how the shadows change. I believe another poster was having this same issue, but I can't find the posting.

Could you pleas post your screen profile?
What happens if you view the generated JPG and the raw file side by side in AS?
cheers

Re: image in aftershot not matching output--help!
I've attached the display profile (this is a version 2 monitor profile). I'm also posting a version 4 monitor profile that also didn't work. (okay just tried to attach but ".icm" files not allowed. I will submit those through the monkey.
Side by side in aftershot the raw and resulting jpeg look the same (ie. shadows too dark in both). I've attached a screenshot comparing it to how the created jpeg looks in photoshop. Please note that in this screenshot, the aftershot side-by-side files appear a bit lighter than they actually do on my screen, but the photoshop jpeg is remaining the same.

Never ever do this on a color managed systemontariomark wrote:Strangely, when I take a print-screen of the aftershot application, when I paste it into photoshop the resulting image does not match the one displayed in Aftershot. essentially that applies the monitor profile twice (once in ASP, once in PS).
For the same reason never post screenshots from CM systems to illustrate image quality problems, always use the output

Anything you sent to the monkey is good for bug reporting, but not helpful when trying to diagnose things in the forum.ontariomark wrote:I've attached the display profile (this is a version 2 monitor profile). And attaching any file is trivial. ZIP it or add .txt to the name of text files....
Ok, that clearly shows that AS is consistent and that the problem is very much likely related to the screen profile and how AS handles it.Side by side in aftershot the raw and resulting jpeg look the same (ie. shadows too dark in both).
Try a different calibration software (for example ArgyllCMs if you don't have anything else on your box already).

Re: image in aftershot not matching output--help!
Thanks for all the info. everyone (ie. how to attach different file types, merits of screenshots etc.). I'll definitely give ArgyllCMs a shot when my current work projects are finished--looks like a very interesting program.
All info. has also been submitted to the Monkey.

Did you try to switch off "Autolevel" already? I'm pretty sure that's related to that strange behaviour ...ontariomark wrote:[SNIP]

Re: image in aftershot not matching output--help!
I had a similar problem. All images were dark and orange. It turned out that AfterShot had selected the wrong monitor profile as the "default". I found another for my system. Manually selecting that solved the problem.
