Hi
I have used two earlier versions of Video Studio and it was easy to load a non-commercial DVD directly into the program, sort out the scenes and chapters required and edit the input. Now I have just bought the boxed bundle of Videostudio and PaintShop Pro X4 and it defeats me. The only way I can load my DVD's now (which were created and burnt to disc using V11) is to copy the DVD to my hard drive and then alter the VOB extension to mpg (suggested in another forum). Video Studio X4 will then let me open them into my library and work with them. This seems ridiculous and I am sure I am missing a step somewhere. When I try to use Capture, Import from Digital Media with a DVD in the drive it clatters and generally complains and then the screen greys out and the message that Video Studio is not responding and closes. The DVD drive remains stuck closed until I attack it with a paperclip or until I reboot the computer. Both my DVD drives behave in the same manner.
Can anyone tell me if Video Studio X4 should be able to do what I want or else tell me how I can reinstall my old version and have the two programs running on my computer.
I have just ordered the book from Amazon and maybe it will help but I have to wait 3-4 weeks for its arrival.
Please help
Marge.

Re: DVD capture in videostudio X4
Hi Marge
Welcome to the forums
Importing a disc using X4 works for me, I have to say that it is a little slow in reading the disc, and I must admit it does clatter a little, but the Chapter/Title selection goes ok and the files are imported correctly. The disc is full and containing 35 separate titles so maybe thats the reason for the delay.
------------------------
After saving the Video_TS folder to the hard drive try importing again from that folder, this will test the Import Digital Media process without the disc drive.
I normally right click the timeline for the Import Digital Media option.

Have you installed all update patches provided by Corel, link at top of forums.

Re: DVD capture in videostudio X4
Thanks for quick reply. I will try again and leave the room while X4 is trying to import the files. Maybe it needs a lot longer than I expected. At least you have told me that it is possible so I will persevere.

Re: DVD capture in videostudio X4
I tried again but this time I just selected the D: drive instead of selecting any particular folder or file. Guess what! It imported perfectly under Capture option. Then I tried again with another DVD and walked away and left it to do its own thing. Again successful but did take quite a long time, maybe 10 minutes. Obviously I had been impatient on earlier attempts. Hope this makes sense and it may help some other users.
Thanks for telling me that it could be done so I kept trying different ways.
Regards
Marge

Re: DVD capture in videostudio X4
Thanks for the feedback, glad you are sorted, always a good idea to go and have a cup of tea whilst deciding if something is actually working or not
