VS 5 Pro goes crazy
I have not had any problems with VS 5 Pro until, all of a sudden, now! VS 4 Pro works fine. However, when I play back an edited video, it plays for a while and then I get this message:( The program has encountered an unspecified error and has stopped functioning.
Please contact Corel Tech Support and the dump file for analysis.

To whom can I send the dump file? I would like to get it working ASAP as I will be on holiday soon.

Re: VS 5 Pro goes crazy
Is this an edited file saved as a movie and you have put it back on the timeline, or is it still in project form?
If the altter, how long does it play for?
For a quick fix, could you cut the project up into smaller projects of a length that works?
Try reinstalling VS.
What are the file types you are using?
There should be an email address for corel support on the main web site.

Re: VS Pro X5 goes crazy
I place m2t files, from my camcorder, on the time line they play in clip mode but, when I try to play them in Project mode I get the error and the program stops. This does not happen in VS Pro X4. If I convert the files, with a File Converter, to m2ts they play and no error. Something is very wrong here. The play mode has a problem with header or something for sure. This does not happen with mov or avi files-they play. I reinstalled twice to no avail. I have a dump file but, Corel's lousy support gives no means to send it to them.

Re: VS 5 Pro goes crazy
I ripped some old MTS files and ran them. They had no problem in VS Pro X5. However, now, when I place an MTS file from the Panasonic TM900, it crahes upon playing. This never happen before.

Re: VS 5 Pro goes crazy
I batch converted MTS, from my Panny, to M2T files using VS Pro X5 batch conversion and they function normally. Why can't VS Pro X5 read the Panny MTS files directly without error?

Hi
You said "I have not had any problems with VS 5 Pro until, all of a sudden, now!"
If it used to work!!! then what's changed on your PC
Have you installed any other software, have there been any auto updates, run registry cleaners etc.

Re: VS 5 Pro goes crazy
Installed Light Room 4 and install older disk image for entire computer. If there were some new I would know. Something waky has gotten in there. Reinstalls do not work.
Yet, there is no problem with VS Pro X4. If I batch convert, the problem goes away. also.

Re: VS 5 Pro goes crazy
If you have been using the Panny to film at 60P, have you ticked 'Enable 60p/50p Editing' under Settings?

Re: VS 5 Pro goes crazy
Unfortunately, I was shooting at 1920X1080 and 60i. I need to send them the DMP file but, no provision available to do so. Looks like I may have to wait for VS Pro X6 and continue with the more robust X4.

Re: VS 5 Pro goes crazy
As I understand it, you can only send the dump file to Corel after you have logged into your account.
I also recall that two or three years ago, when AVCHD cameras were new, Panasonic tweaked the codec in a way which could not be read properly by VS and other software editing packages. That was subsequently corrected. But I also recall that users found that if they first transferred the video from the camera to the computer using the Panny software, then it converted it from .mts to .m2ts which worked. The two formats are of course identical, though there could be tags/flags on the former which are causing the difficulty, and these are stripped when 'converted' to .m2ts.

Re: VS 5 Pro goes crazy
Ken
That's exactly the work around that I use by conversion. I would like to preclude this action, if possible. For a small number of clips it's no big deal but, when clips are numerous, it becomes an onerous task. Strangely, VS Pro X4 exhibits none of this issue and works perfectly - go figure that one!

Re: VS 5 Pro goes crazy
I GOT IT FIXED!! I ran a codec repair tool and eliminated some non functional codecs. I installed FFDShow and now it works like old times.

Re: VS 5 Pro goes crazy
Hi
How do you upload the footage from camera to PC.
As far as i know Panasonic provide software that can be used to upload the files.
You could simply be using Windows Explorer to Copy and Paste.
I think one method produces MTS whilst the other M2TS
Have you tried both methods.

Re: VS 5 Pro goes crazy
I use a card reader - not Panny software. No, I have not tied both methods and now I do not need to try it as I have retained full functionality. This "Codec Tweak" tool can be downloaded from VideoHelp.com.
