VideoStudio Pro x4 - slow load/rendering

Post by Puropuro »

Hi all,

First time posting here.
I just started my first project with VS Pro x4, and it's really annoying me.

I created a 30min video, with a lot of photos mixed with live video, transitions, music, etc.
Now, when I try to reopen the file for futher editing, it appears the software needs to re-render all the thumbnails in my video track stream.
As I mentioned, I have a lot of photos in there, so it's taking forever.

With the previous software I used (Pinnacle Studio), I could flush the cache and have the program rebuild (and store) all the thumbnail info for faster loads in subsequent sessions.

Is my problem normal? Is there a tweak I should be doing?
(I do have all the updates for x4 installed)

Thanks all!

How long is "forever"? When I open a project made up of video only, with 150+ included, it takes 2 - 3 minutes for X4 (and X5) to load the project... I just find something else to do while the project is loading...

Hi Ken,

Well, so far, it's on the order of minutes, and it never seems to finish.
It's like, I'll open up the file then wait. As I scroll through the timeline to the right, none of the thumbnails are rendered until I scroll past them.
Then, the software starts updating the thumbnails.
It's as if the program doesn't update the thumbnails until I scroll past them.

I just tried it again, and it's still doing it.
I waited after loading my save, then scrolled to the right, and none of the thumbnails in the video track had rendered yet.

Thanks for the help.

There is one setting that slows down the refreshing of timeline thumbnails for photos, and that is "Cache Photos in Memory" on the Preferences > Edit tab.

Hi

I have a few projects approx 30 minutes long, they use DV-Avi and a mix of Images, about 170 clips in all.
Loads in 16 seconds, the timeline refreshes almost immediately, some projects do have Wav audio and these seem to slow the process.
If using Auto Music may be even slower.
and I guess if you are using HD video then it would be slower.??????????

The type of clips / files you are using can/will change the speed by which the project loads.
so a little difficult to compare your projects with others.

I have just inserted 1050 images at 10 seconds using a random transition of 4 sec, 1 hr 45 min
No problems in loading this project. I re-booted X4 then opened the project in 20 seconds max.

What happens if you use all library samples, Video and Photos, use Random transitions at 4 sec.
I also inserted all audio, the total length was 16 minutes +, mostly of audio

Thanks for the replies.

I finally got the program to render all the thumbnails, so I don't want to chance shutting it down yet.
Once I get my video completed, I'll try tweaking a couple things per your suggestions. (I do have the cache thumbnails box checked)
I'm wondering if it lost all the thumbnail cache last time I compiled and it crashed.

Anyway, stay tuned...I'll update after I get this project done.

Hi

I don’t have Cache Photos In Memory selected

I would suspect the audio to be slowing things down rather than the images?
as a test
save the project giving it a new name
remove all clips with the exception of the top track, I assume this contains all images and video
Render this to a new video file using your output settings. How long does that take?

Open the original project and replace the top track.

Share create video file --- same as first clip...................

well HD ..... lets say if its MPEG2 so Called HDV - then probobly 4 times slower! if lets say its AVCHD - i would suggest u to change your system to INTEL, as u ll need ALL HORSE POWER POSSIBLE, i would say editing / rendering AVCHD going to be slower then HDV by 6-8 times! and if your clip is longer then 15 min - u ll cry! my i7 950 is 85-100% busy on ALL 4 Cores!

here is what corel told me:
