Hi: When I render 18 minute ProX5 project to movie file WMV at 1080p it comes out with incorrect aspect ratio, everything is elongated vertically. Any ideas?
I am using a Canon Vix HFS20 camera.
thanks

Re: ProX5 rendering to WMV 1080p aspect ratio issue
Hi Candy
Give us a little more info regarding the original and rendered video files.
From the timeline right click each type and select properties, what are they?
When you selected the wmv template how did you do this.?
The standard template may render the video to 1440 x 1080, even though this is widescreen, are these the sizes you require.
What are you trying to create, a DVD or for the internet?

Re: ProX5 rendering to WMV 1080p aspect ratio issue
Here are jpg print screens of what the properties are of the original file in the project and then what I'm trying to do, "share" it to WMV HD 1080.
Depending on file size it ends up to be I'd like to burn DVDs and also load it on Youtube at the 1080 HD resolution. Sorry I don't know much about the file dimensions when I try to do this. This file might end up being too large for a 4 GB DVD so what I usually do is end up "sharing" the project to 720 p, but I'd like to use the 1080 p for Youtube. I did not have this aspect ratio problem with VS ProX3. I rendered this project to 1080p, it took about 3 hours, then looked at it and the ratio was off, everything stretched vertically. I don't have this problem if I render it to 720 p. I feel like I get better resolution with Youtube if I load a movie file as 1080p if at all possible despite the fact that it takes a while.
Thanks again for any help,
Candy

Re: ProX5 rendering to WMV 1080p aspect ratio issue
A little more, was just looking at the list of file choices for rendering. Maybe I should be using ACVHD? Was using WMV just because I saw the 1080p. Duh, not too smart here with this. Maybe it's just a problem with the WMV 1080p rendering and ProX5?
thanks,
thanks,

Re: ProX5 rendering to WMV 1080p aspect ratio issue
If you investigate the properties of that WMV format, you will find that the dimensions are anamorphic 1440x1080. Most video players will know how to display it as 16:9 ratio, but some don't. Youtube wants square-pixel dimensions, so you would need to create a custom profile that is 1920x1080 instead of the 1440x1080.

Re: ProX5 rendering to WMV 1080p aspect ratio issue
Hi Candy
A standard dvd needs Mpeg2 type video files, this is the format you need to create to burn a DVD
Share Create Video File -- DVD -- DVD Video 16:9 should be suitable.
MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 480, 29.97 fps
Upper Field First
(DVD-NTSC), 16:9
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 8000 kbps)
Audio data rate: 256 kbps
Dolby Digital Audio, 48 KHz, 2/0(L,R)
The Data Rate of 8000kbps will allow for 60 minutes of video with a file size of 4Gb
Using 6000kbps will allow for 90 minutes of video, again a file size of 4 Gb.
How long is your project in minutes?
As you mention You Tube I assume your video will be relatively short.
For you tube use Share-Upload to Web - You Tube--Mpeg4 HD 16:9
When complete cancel the upload window.
Try a short clip to test out these options.

Re: ProX5 rendering to WMV 1080p aspect ratio issue
Hi Trevor:
Thanks for the info. What I have been doing (without knowing why) is currently using ProX5's DVD burn feature and burning WMV 720p files to DVDs, works fine. The 1080p WMV files were working fine with older Canon camera, now I'm using a new one, also Canon, which makes me think the choices I've made with what type of movie file I render could be the problem.
Anyway, the project is 19 min 49 seconds long. I usually load fairly long files on youtube without a problem, just takes quite a bit of time. I usually start it at night and let it load all night. The next one I'm working on will be about 40 minutes long. I will try the Share-Upload to Web - Youtube. I stopped loading them that way a while ago due to frustration with Youtube/Google login issues but I will try it as you say, again. I have been going into Youtube and loading them from there.
Again, thanks for all your help. I will let you know how it goes.

Re: ProX5 rendering to WMV 1080p aspect ratio issue
Trevor: I rendered the project to Mpeg4-HD. Rendering went much faster as did the upload to Youtube which I did from Youtube and not thru ProX5. The correct aspect ratio is now correct. The HD 1080p is now there as a choice on youtube and the video quality seems better. I'm going to do it this way from now on. Thanks for your help!

Hi Candy
Glad to hear you have created a better quality video.
The Share upload to Web option has a duration limit, it may be 15 minutes, not sure till i give it a go.
Anyhow it may be best to use Make Movie Templates Manager to create your own Mpeg4 template, Use the same settings as the Web Upload option.
the template will be available adjacent to the Custom option.
