Stop Tabbing!

Post by jglazer »

How do I disable, remove, destroy, the image tabbing (document) feature that is anoying as heck? I don't want tabs. Every time i enlarge an image (scrollwheel) or i drag an image close to the top of the workspace EVERYTHING gets tabbed again. I want to totally remove this feature.

...how?

Hopefully they will return this F***ed feature of X4 to what it was in PSP X3 and earlier in the next service pack.

There you had to purposefully choose Tabbed documents rather than it being some default and no action with scrolling , cropping changing crop tool from one image to another would cause tabbed documents to appear.

I also hope they allow the scroll wheel zoom to take you out to the corners and edges rather than almost there and then have to go to the scroll bars to finish getting to a corner.

Personally, I find this to be a useful feature; but obviously, you can always check/uncheck Windows > Tabbed Documents if you don't want this feature.

I'm pretty sure I had to do this in X3 and X4...

Actually in X3 and X2 you had to flip the switch and it would remain one way or the other. In X4 there seem to be a number of ways in which it flips to Tabbed automatically even though you do not want it. That is the major complaint. eg you have a number of open windowed documents arranged on the desktop at once and you crop one and then try doing some thing with another and accidently move or click too quickly on a title bar , and wammo you lost your arrangement and it takes you time to get it back again.

I remember seeing one of the corel webinars and the demonsrator did something there which also stuffed her presentation a bit when it jumped into Tabbed mode.

We are not denying the use of tabbed documents that some like but just want to have the choice to put it in one display mode or the other and have it stay.

Imagine if you were working in tabbed mode and every now and then it jumped into tiled mode and to get back to tabbed you had to keep going up to Menu item Window and Tick Tabbed documents.

It might just be mine, during the Introduction to Scripts: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IOT2k2wlCG8. Yes, THREE times, i accidentally double-clicked on one image and they ALL tabbed, then to untab them, they all got cascaded, loosing all the arrangement i had on the workspace to help with the workflow of the presentation (and i did whisper some annoyed comments!)

Yes that was probably the Webinar I watched. I could sense your frustration with that "feature" as well.

Actually I would be interested to know who at Corel decides that something should be changed or a particular feature removed or added. How do they make that decision? Do they have a number of people run the program in their different ways (beta testing) before they finalise the feature or is it just one or two programmers that decide " This would be cool , lets do it!!" Then they put it out and see how many complaints they get?

They do have beta testers, but only after a beta version is made. I would assume (i am not in the know) that suggestions, like those listed in the Wishlist thread here, might be considered and then, they might be looking around, at the competition, and try to make things better the way they see it. Most new features are at least somewhat useful to some users, so if those who gave feedback liked or wanted that feature, i guess they go with that?

Definitely was frustrated, but i had to be polite, in front of the large live audience!
It is one thing to say it is annoying and breaking the workflow, it is another to see it in action, so i did send Corel a note about this incident so they could see it in a "real" work situation. Hopefully, others will also chime in with similar comments!

It's not just you, I have complained about this from day one during the X4 testing.
I hope it will get changed.
All that needs doing is to stop the Crop Tool activating the Tabbed Document mode and restore the buttons that used to be at the top right in version pre-X4, so the user could Restore Down and not be attacked by cascading windows!

It's a pain, I hate that mode, with a passion

One problem with this "feature" is that anyone can get "attacked" by it at any time. It is not like one can say "it does not bother me because i dont use that specific tool/command/feature or i use another one instead".It can hit you at the worst possible time, like when i did that live presentation!
