[Solved] Ubuntu 12.04 and AfterShot Pro 1.0.1.10

Post by dFlyer »

https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cu ... 3522764Has anyone using Ubuntu 12.04 been able to get the recent release of ASP to print? Ever since I upgraded to ASP and Ubuntu 12.04 I've not been able to print. I've got Bibble5 installed and printing works great there. I'm currently totally lost on how to get this working. I can print to file / pdf, but it doesn't give me a printer to print to.

Okay found a fix for the printer problem. I did a search on google and found the pending ubuntu cups 1.5.3. The files are:

cups_1.5.3-0ubuntu1_amd64.deb
cups-bsd_1.5.3-0ubuntu1_amd64.deb
cups-client_1.5.3-0ubuntu1_amd64.deb
cups-common_1.5.3-0ubuntu1_all.deb
cups-ppdc_1.5.3-0ubuntu1_amd64.deb

They can be downloaded from:

https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cu ... ld/3522764

works here, but without the settings page as it was with the last Ubuntu and the current ASP release.

These are installed:

Code: Select all

ii cups 1.5.2-9ubuntu1 Common UNIX Printing System(tm) - server
ii cups-bsd 1.5.2-9ubuntu1 Common UNIX Printing System(tm) - BSD commands
ii cups-client 1.5.2-9ubuntu1 Common UNIX Printing System(tm) - client programs (SysV)
ii cups-common 1.5.2-9ubuntu1 Common UNIX Printing System(tm) - common files
ii cups-filters 1.0.17-0bzr0.1 OpenPrinting CUPS Filters
ii cups-pk-helper 0.2.1.2-1 PolicyKit helper to configure cups with fine-grained privileges

The 12.4 cups is totally broken.
At work our sysadmin started to install the 11.10 version on the 12.4 machines and urged those that have not switched yet to wait a bit, the Ubuntu guys are working on a fix.

On my own 12.4 box, I can print LibreOffice Docs ok on the brother printer, but our HPs slow down to a crawl with the current driver. My colleagues trying to print PDFs from Acrobat or Envince only get garbage output with the CUPS on 12.4.

No idea, whether the AS problem with printing on 12.4 is the related to this, but I bet there is a link. I can NOT see any of my office printers in the AS print dialog on my freshly installed box (a T520 with quad i7 and a wide gamut screen ;-)

cheers

I have everything listed above installed except cups-pk-helper which I'll give a try and report back.
Thanks.

Maybe some wired other thing. - BTW - I can reproduce the other bug with the empty print settings tab on my system here.

Comparing an updated vs. a freshly installed box shows another tidbit:
The updated box still shows the printers in the printer selection box of AS, but the freshly installed one does not.

That maybe it, as I did a fresh install. Just to report back on my last post. Installed cups-pk-helper which didn't help.
Thanks.

Have you tried using system-config-printer and in the settings in the server menu tell it to show printers from other systems? I think the default has always been to not look for remote printers. But the latest versions have a printer settings dialog that just suck and no longer offer these settings...

afx is right, cups in Precise Pangolin is broken. Depending on your printer, you can work around it by printing to a PDF file and then printing the PDF. I haven't tried downgrading yet, but you should be able to revert your cups installation the previous version by re-adding Oneiric's software sources and doing "apt-get install cups/oneiric". If that works, you can pin the package to Oneiric's version until it's fixed in Precise. Otherwise it will just be re-upgraded to the version in Precise on the next regular system update.

No, the Ubuntu systems are configured to check for updates daily. Since the version in Oneiric is older than the one in Precise, you are effectively downgrading your CUPS installation. The package manager will detect that during its daily check and try to re-upgrade again to the broken version in Precise. You can prevent that by pinning the version to the one contained in Oneiric. This way, the package manager won't try to upgrade your CUPS packages, but will keep installing newer versions of all other packages that you have on your machine.
