Looping Clips

Post by jamesq »

Is there a method for putting a short clip in a VIP track and getting it to loop as opposed to cutting and pasting it over and over again? If so, how?

Not that I am aware of. I just repeat the same clip up to the time desired.

Incidentally, what is a 'VIP' track? Or did you mean VSP?

The problem I have with repeating the same track is that if I cut and paste it back to back, the object in the clip that is pasted shifts around when that point is reached in the timeline. That is the problem I am tryng to solve.

There is no such thing as a VIP reack. What I ment to type in was PIP. PIP is the term powerdirector uses for overlay track. I used powerdirector for a long time. My mistake.

How can an object "embedded" in a video clip move around? You will have to explain that a bit more.
You did mean "copy and paste" and not "Cut and paste", didn't you?
PiP is the term for "Picture-in-Picture".

I did mean copy and past. The object is not "embeded", the object is a live dog, lying down, that doesn't move even a fraction of an inch, other than turning its head and staring around. At the instant the original clip ends and the pasted clip begins, the whole dog shifts a little bit. It is like the the pasted clip is repositioned slightly.

One trick that works in certain situations is to reverse, play backwards, the even numbered clips. Also trim the last frame of odd numbered clips and trim the first frame of even numbered clips.

Is there a particular reason why you are using an overlay track - videos and images put there can move around, it's made like that in case you want the image in different places on the screen. When you copy and paste do you use the same command every time to get the frame the correct size - that is do you always use "fit to screen" or "original size" or what ? - if you are using different commands the video may not be in the same place every time.

Have you tried using the main video track - does it still do it there ?

have you tried just dragging and dropping the video from the library multiple times as a new insert - rather than copying a clip that might not be positioned correctly and pasting that.

If you just want to watch the video in VideoStudio there is a 'loop' command under the preview screen - second icon in from the right next to the loudspeaker - that will show it again and again until you stop it.

I'm not sure what you expect to do with your final video - you can't make a video which loops for ever and ever - it's got to end somewhere !

what do you want to play the video on - it is usuually the player that provides the function to loop.

and a personal plea = please use the "post reply" icon and not the "quote" one - it gets confusing having the page full with the same text over and over

To make shure the dog doesn't change position take a screenshot from the start end the end of your clip and compare both. Was your camcorder on a good tripod while shooting the clip?

So the clip of the dog is on the overlay track, correct?

Why not export the main track and the overlay to a new clip. You can then add that new clip several times and the "dog clip" will always be the same.
