yeah, it is really funny that there is no camera, lens or flash listed....RickHeath wrote:Just a shame there wasn't space to include a camera or lenses once all that's packed!!

Ok I'm having trouble figuring out the need for an iPod? Fully charged or not. Than again maybe the shooter is using an iPhone for picture taking?

Could be an old list - from before the iphone?John123 wrote:Ok I'm having trouble figuring out the need for an iPod? Fully charged or not. Than again maybe the shooter is using an iPhone for picture taking?
I understand the need for a MP3 player on the road; not everyone wants to use the phone battery for other stuff than phoning and messaging.

Re: What every Photographer needs
It stikes me as more of a "here's what I pack in my bag" kind of list than a universal one. Half that stuff I have no use for (iPod, tripod adapters, firewire cables, etc.). These days with the wide variety of electronic accessories, what you need can change radically based on waht gear you actually use. Also, it is amusing that there was no mention of actual camera gear (you know, those gadgets that actually capture images?)--seems toi me items #1 and #2 would be camera bodies and lenses.

Re: What every Photographer needs
Guys, did you read where this list comes from?
It is not a photographers bag but that of an assistant who supports a range of photographers....
If you think about this, then the list is perfectly sensible...
cheers

but if you have an assistant they are the ones who carry the camera bag! But if they fill it up with other junk instead...

If you hire a competent assistant, the you expect him to have all the little things at hand that you usually forget to bringRickHeath wrote:but if you have an assistant they are the ones who carry the camera bag! But if they fill it up with other junk instead...

It can be used to remotely control the camera using the proper app.John123 wrote:Ok I'm having trouble figuring out the need for an iPod? Fully charged or not. Than again maybe the shooter is using an iPhone for picture taking?
It can be used to stream shots for the client/art director to view as they are shot.
( Much nicer than having them hovering over your shoulder as you shoot! )

An iPod? Perhaps you mean an iPad? I will be the first person to admit I know nothing about Apple products but isn't an iPod an mp3 player?SteveCase wrote:It can be used to remotely control the camera using the proper app.John123 wrote:Ok I'm having trouble figuring out the need for an iPod? What is listed is an iPod.
Re: What every Photographer needs
..is an assistant that knows how to use these things.
a very good list. reminds me of my days as an assistant.
although some items really depend on the kind of shooting you are doing.
my basics these days would be a microfiber cloth, tape, knife, screwdriver, edding (sharpie) and a few clamps.
what i miss though is the cleaning stuff for anything involving glass, metal, wood or other surfaces:
- paper towels
- the 5 basic cleaning agents, from more to less important:
window cleaner, spirit, acetone, stainless steel polish, vegetable oil
cheers,
