Dear readers,
i have the following problem. I've created a project wich takes about 20 minutes.
The projects contains foto's and video's (MTS 1920x1080). When I create an ouput
file in the MPEG-4 HD format there is one point is my video where there is a Glitch.
There is one MTS file in my video where I see some white flickering, wich is very
disturbing.
I've performed some tests to try to solve the solution, but I think it seems that
there is a fault or error in the VSX file.
I wonder if anybody knows this problem and knows a solution? Below I've
added some of the results of some things I've have tried:
When I drag that one MTS file in my project to another location the flickering
seems to stay at the same place but then in another video.
When I remove that one MTS file from my project the flickering is gone. It's
a solution, but not at this point, it should be working.
When I play the video in Windows Media Player then I see the flickering,
but when I play it with VideoLan then I don't see it. If I play the video
on some computer with Media Player it also should be working.
Also when I export the video in the AVCHD (1920x1080P) format the
flickering doesn't occur.
Best regards,
Michel Dogger

Is there any specific reason you need to export it as MPEG-4 HD, rather than AVCHD? After all, AVCHD is also mpeg-4 using the H.264 codec.

Re: VSX4 / VSX5 - MPEG-4 HD output file with Glitch
Well one of the reasons is that it plays on my TV (Samsung) with Media Play
Maybe I first should check for some updates for my TV
It is an option, but I would like to know why I only have that kind of problems with
the MPEG-4 HD format... any other format looks fine... and it already has cost me
a lot of hours trying to find out the cause or solution for the problem.
Yesterday I have also created the movie as AVCHD and after that I opened that
output file and created the MPEG-4 files with that file. In the AVCHD file there
was no flickering and in the new MPEG-4 file there it was again.
Another question which output format would you recommend?
Thanks, so far

Maybe its an interlacing issue.................
Give the properties of each video file
Right click the clips In the timeline and select properties, do this for both types.
What are they?
Does one indicate Upper Field and the other not

Re: VSX4 / VSX5 - MPEG-4 HD output file with Glitch
In my case the problem is in a file called: 00246.MTS and this are the properties.
I hope i've called then right, because I have to translate from Dutch.
Filename: 00246.MTS
File Format: PAL HDMV
Video Type: H.264 Video, Upper Field first.
As far as I can see these properties apply to all *.MTS files in my project.
The format of the JPG files is: JPEG file interchange format.
Thanks, Michel

Hi Michel
Changing the properties of the original video will affect the quality. You should try to keep the Frame Rate and Field as original
I was asking if you could also view the Mpeg4 properties, do they use the same Upper Field First.?
We need to know all properties, the frame rate may use 25fps but also 50 fps
Field order will be Upper or Frame Based?
-----------------------------
Are you able to take a screen shot of the properties windows, Alt +PrtSc will copy the details to your clipboard, use an image editor to make a Jpg, Attach to the post

Re: VSX4 / VSX5 - MPEG-4 HD output file with Glitch
Hi Trevor,
I hope that I understand you correctly but I have to explain that I only use *.MTS files in my Project.
The MPEG-4 file I refer to is the output file from VideoStudio after rendering my Project. But I will
give as much information as possible.
1. Project Properties
- See: "Project Properties.jpg"
- File Format: MPEG files
- PAL (25 fps)
- MPEG bestanden
- 24 bits, 720 x 576, 25 fps
- Upper Field First
- (DVD-PAL), 16:9
- Dataspeed Video: Variabel (Max. 8000 kbps)
- LPCM Audio, 48000 Hz, Stereo
2. The properties of the 00246.MTS file.
- See: "Properties 00246.MTS.jpg"
- This are the properties opened from within VS via "Right Click" on the Time Line. (Dutch)
- File Format: PAL HDMV
- Video Type: H.264 Video, Upper Field First
- Properties: 24 bits, 1920x1080, 16:9
- Frame Speed: 25.000 frames/sec
- Data Speed: Variable Bit speed (Max. 22599 kbps)
3. Properties (via Windows Explorer) from the Rendered Project File
- See: "Properties Rendered Project File.jpg"
- These are the Video Properties from the final rendered file
Could you also tell me what's the best Frame Type to use when creating
Projects that consist of Pictures (JPG) and Video (MTS)?
Upper Field First, Lower Field First of Frame Based?
I hope I have given you the information you need.
Thank you for trying to help.
Best Regards, Michel

Re: VSX4 / VSX5 - MPEG-4 HD output file with Glitch
Unfortunately, Windows Explorer does not give us all the information we need, especially about the Field Order used in the output file i.e. whether it is also Upper Field First.3. Properties (via Windows Explorer) from the Rendered Project File
However, it *does* indicate that the output file uses a frame rate of 30 fps i.e. NTSC, whereas your original MTS files are 25 fps i.e. PAL. To increase the frame rate of the original to make a 30 fps mpeg-4, Video Studio literally invents them out of thin air -- though not really. It merely repeats some of the existing frames in the original MTS. This alone could account for the flickering.
Does not your Samsung HDTV play AVCHD? Mine certainly does, and does it well...
