[BUG?] Floating panels for filters/layers shy on Linux

Post by nbales »

Exact OS: Ubuntu 12.04 with the standard Unity desktop

By "shy" I mean that the panels like to hide:
  • The panels sometimes disappear behind the main ASP window. To get them back I have to de-maximize ASP, drag it around, and click on the filters or layers panel to bring it into focus and back on top. Then I can re-maximize ASP.
  • Re/clicking the toggle icon does not bring the panels back on top. If the filter panel has retreated behind my main ASP window, the toggle button appears not to work (presumably because the panel is appearing and disappearing behind my main ASP window).
  • At one point the filter panel failed entirely and rendered my desktop background over the top of my active ASP window (in the shape of the filter panel). I had to restart ASP.
I have not yet found a reliable way to reproduce the issue, but it happens a couple times an hour when I'm working. This may not be a bug in ASP, but a bug in the Qt library on which ASP 1.0.1.10 is compiled.

While on the subject of the filters/layers/cropping panels... <GRUMBLES> Why do they have to be so fussy! Why are these tools alone relegated to floating panels that are at all times either non-accessible, in-your-way, or broken. I would find them much more useable if they were just snapped into the regular tool benches until a solidly-implemented flexible UI is adopted for the entire product. </GRUMBLES>
