VS x4: make objects float across background?

Post by Steve Berer »

Hi. I have learned basic skills with VS x4, and made a couple of videos with animated stills, and voice overlay, but I want to do something more sophisicated now. I'd like to have either a still or video background, with objects (images or text) "orbitting" over it, that is floating across the screen in a smooth trajectory. Is that possible to do inside VS without a camcorder or other handheld? If so, can you give me a brief description of where to look in the menus, what to do, and I'll work on it from there. I assume it will involve some superimposed tracks. But how can I create objects moving along a smooth path?
Thanks!

Hi

You will be working with the overlay tracks, There is a Track Manager icon left of timelines
this will allow you to select more Overlay Tracks (Or Settings Track Manager)

Have a look at the Instant Projects option, Icon below preview screen.
This will give you an idea as to what can be done.

From the Corel Guide, Orange ring top right, choose Do More to download free Instant templates,
Try the moving P-in-P types. (Picture in Picture)
Once downloaded the template needs importing to the Instant Projects panel before using.
The template use Place Holders which need replacing with your images.
How, drag image from library, hover over place holder, press Ctrl key, drop image

Many of these have been created using the P-in-P filter from the FX library.
A bit of a learning curve there......

---------------------

A simply effect, add a clip to the overlay track, Choose the Options button, far right to open the panel
Choose attributes Tab
Set the Direction and Styles panel to animate the clip.

Tip:-
Float your mouse over the various icons for a tool tip.

Hope this helps

Hi Lata. This is a great help. I'm sure it will keep me busy for a long time as I explore how to do what you've touched on, but that's a big step forward for me. I'll be back if I hit a wall, or else a quick report on moving forward. Either way, THANK YOU SO MUCH!!

As I opened VS, a window popped up about Motion Studio. It looked really interesting. Would Motion Studio be a better way to generate these floating/moving objects? That is, would it be easier to use? More efficient in producing desired effects? Create better, more varied effects? Or is it, honestly, redundant with VS's capabilities?
I'd appreciate your insights!
Thanks.

Motion Studio 3D is a programme which allows you to create 3D objects - then to animate them and output the result as a video which you could import to VideoStudio - but you would still need to use the same sort of procedures in VideoStudio as you would now - just that you could start with a moving 3D object.
Motion Studio in itself cannot edit videos - it is a just a tool to make objects and videos you can integrate with your own videos - like all Corel products a free trial is available for download - why not give it a trial and see what it can do for you.

Thanks Brian. Yes, I understand that it is not video editing software, but it seems to describe the kinds of objects I want to superimpose over background images/videos, which I would otherwise create in VS. I will look into Motion Studio, and compare with VS.
