Pro X5 newBlue picture in picture

Post by Kazan »

When trying to insert a picture using the above filter I have a black background surrounding the picture. I cannot get rid of it. This black background partly mask the clip on the video time line. I do not remember having this problem with X4
Can you help

I'm pretty sure it was a problem in X4. Here is the trick I use to turn on transparency so the NewBlue PIP effect applied to the clip on the overlay track sees through to the video track.

What you have to do is turn on Mask mode (see steps below) and then select an all white mask. That will turn on transparency. Since there isn't an all-white mask in the mask list, you have to create one in a photo editing program. All you need is a 300x300 pixel image with an all-white background. Save it in bmp format. Import that bmp into the mask list in VideoStudio.

To add a mask image to the rest of the masks:
1. Select the clip in the overlay track.
2. Click the blue Options button on the far right.
3. Click the Attribute tab.
4. Click the "Mask and Chroma key" button.
5. Select "Apply Overlay Options"
6. Select "Mask Frame" from the drop-down list for Type.
7. Click the "+" button to the right of the mask list, then navigate to your bmp image and click the Open button. VideoStudio will probably tell you that it has to convert the image to an 8-bit bmp. Select OK. After that the mask should stay permanently in the list until you uninstall VideoStudio.
8. Select the mask from the list.
9. Now the NewBlue PIP should work.

Go to customize filter. Center the picture. Set size to 100. Click P and save preset. This removes the black border. Next time you insert a picture and the black border is present. Open customize filter and load the preset you saved and the black border is removed.

That isn't what we were trying to do. We want a border, but we want to see through the border to the next track. We don't want to expand the image so there is no border. That would defeat the whole purpose of picture-in-picture.
