Having a problem opening images . . .

I hope I can explain this so it makes sense . . .

My hard drive was failing and had to be replaced. Fortunately I was able to retrieve most of my images and documents. However, that got complicated. Burning CD's and DVD's wasn't working so I had to transfer files to a flash drive, then to my laptop from the PC, and only then could I burn the stuff to a DVD.

So .. now a new hard drive .. programs and images are re-installed. In only one folder of images am I finding this problem ... When trying to open a file (cartoon-type image, smalll file size of 2 MB or less) I get the message "Not a valid Paint Shop Pro X2 Image file". When double-checking by right clicking and then clicking on "properties" it most certainly IS a PSP X2 image file. In this folder of 192 files I can only open a couple dozen.

I'm going nuts trying to figure this out ... there's hundreds of hours of work in those images.

Any ideas? or maybe a work-around? I sure don't want to do all that work over again.

Can you tell use what is the complete name of the file including the extension. Is it (.jpg, .png, .tif, or .pspimage, .psp). Also tell us what version of PaintShop Pro are you using? This will help us determine what the real problem it.

I used Paint Shop Pro X2 ... the file extension is .pspimage. All of my images have multiple layers.

I can try to send you one of the images if that wil help. These are all to be used in a
book later this year and I'd really hate to have to do all this work again! There are nearly 170
of these images.

It's weird . . . other files that I saved (with layers) are OK ... just these cartoons.

This is where wiser people would say just go to your external backup drive and recover the images from there. I regard my images so important to at least me that I have at least 3 archive / backup copies. With the price of external hard drives being so economical now all valuable images should be saved in at least 2 locations.

Yeah, I know ... however, I neglected to do that.

I think I have found a sort-of solution. I installed the old, failing hard drive along side the new HD and am able to access the original files. It's VERY slow going to copy them to the new HD, but, at least as long as the old hard drive holds out, I'll be able to retrieve them all.

I DID back them up, when the drive started acting wonky .. they're burned to a DVD. However, they were somehow corrupted in the process.

Wish me luck in getting them all before the thing dies altogether!

Thanks anyway. However, I'm still open to any suggestions anyone might have . . . .
