Preview window always black

Post by tomsalinsky »

Hi there

I've just installed Media Studio Pro 6.5 (free on a magazine cover disk) and I'm having some trouble with it. After I've dropped a video clip onto the timeline, I click "play", it renders it and I get the sound but the preview window is just black. I've downloaded every patch and codec I've seen mentioned, but nothing happens. Nearest I've got is a message saying video frames are being output to my DV camera. Unplug the camera and try again - still nothing!

Can anybody help?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers

Although it's years since I used 6.5, this rang a vague bell. Somewhere on your system there is a file called something like ulead32.ini (use Search ulead*.ini) - I can't be sure of the exact name. When you have found it, rename the extension to .old. The next time you start MSP, it will rebuild a new .ini file and I THINK you may find it will work OK.

Sorry, Devil, it's still stubbornly black.

Any other ideas?

I'm not at my video machine now and will be hours before I get home. Somewhere in 'Preferences' (I think) you can direct MSP as to where you want to see the preview ie. preview window, camcorder etc. If you set this to output to preview window you should be ok.

Sorry, I may have misled you. Can you try searching for U32*.ini? I simply cannot remember the name and, of course, the ini structure has changed in the later versions. I think the file we are looking for used to reside in C:\windows or C:\windows\system. My apologies for being so vague.

In version 7 it's under File Menu/Playback Options - may want to try there also.

If your DV camera is DV-out only, you won't see anything on the camera, but MSP will "think" the stream is being sent to the camera.

Just unplug your camera and set MSP so it sends the preview to the preview window.
