I'm currenty going through a batch of digital photos I took of my nephew, some of which have serious red eye issues.
using the inbuilt red eye removal tool under the adjust drop down has proven quite useful, but I am limited in terms of iris colours. none of the default colours seem to be a good match for his own eye colour and they are noticably inaccurate in the final result. is there any way to either mix the default iris colours then save the new colour, or add extra colours any other way?

A work around that you can try is to use the color changer, this is different from the usual red eye removal function. Since the color changer will require you to have the color that you want to use.
sometime I ago, I created a color changer tutorial for PSP X2 Ult. good thing it is still application even if youa re using PSP X4.
here's the tutorial: http://abielonline.blogspot.com/2009/04 ... using.html

I tried that, and it works to some extent, but it is more time comsuming to do. it's ok for one or two pics that need red eye adjustments, but when it's a big batch of images, it takes up a hell of a lot of time.

So the regular red-eye removal tool doesn't work then? You mentioned specifically using the one under the adjust menu which works differently than the red-eye removal tool which offers its "one-click" solution by coloring the pupil in with a dark grey/black to remove the red-eye. It doesn't touch the Irish unless you make the sample area too large. I'm assuming that the red-eye happens on a very small eye and that's why you're looking for into using the one that also produces an Irish for you but I wanted to make sure.
I can't recommend any really useful options because I've always been taught to do it slowly. So I zoom in, select the eye, promote the selection to its own layer. Perform a saturation or color adjustment depending on what's needed and erase the excess areas. A slow process that works for me. Even if I were to do a hundred images. I don't really use those two red-eye options at all.

Re: PSPX3: red eye removal custom iris colour?
the regular red eye tool causes noticeable ugly streaks for some reason so I don't use that at any cost. using the full manual method you are talking about, which I have done in the past yeilds mixed results and is extremely labourious. on some pictures it works while on others, the results are less impressive. the problem arises when the red eye is not clearly defined, but leaches onto the iris itself. addressing the pupil leaves the red eye glow outside on the iris, as a red halo that is noticeable in the final result. the only thing I can do to try to get around this, is to make the pupil unnaturally large, and that also doesn't look right on the final result.LeviFiction wrote:So the regular red-eye removal tool doesn't work then? on a couple of pics it's not a problem to do it manually, as much as it is when you are doing a large batch. I just don't have the time to fiddle around, pupil by pupil, iris by iris, eye by eye, picture by picture. the reason why I find the red eye remover under the adjust drop down is because there is the option to mask the leached red eye on the iris. the only downside to it for me, is that I seemingly can't adjust the iris colours on the fly.
