hi again

@DWaldie: there is no bprotector in my task manager list.
i have done a whole system scan for malware and trojans etc anyway but nothing was found.

@lata: i have removed the directory Ulead Systems in the path Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio Pro\15.0.

the read only issue:
i have just set the files in C:\Program Files (x86)\Corel\Corel VideoStudio Pro X5 readable (meaning not read only) in the directory properties. but my vs x5 still hangs in the splash screen.
Besides, i don't see an error message like "unable to load library" like you did
just the stupid splash screen.

sending en-US folder:
i live in germany so for me its the de-DE folder :)
do you think replacing this folder might help ? My folders are fresh and untouched right after the installation. You should probably have the same. but we could give it a try. you never know.
Thanks 8)

Hi

I tried in vane yesterday to replicate the problem, with the Read Only in mind I really messed up my system.
I tried replacing the en-US folder from another pc, this caused more problems, although maybe a good idea did not work, however it was from W7 to XP.
Besides the files will all have different names as you are using the German version.

My only option was to re-install the program.

With the error on start ...Interestingly when the new en-US folder was created it did not complete.
The good folder is about 48 Mb, the fault one being over 600 Mb due to left over temp files.

I was just getting deeper and deeper into the mire............

So i guess if you have changed the "read only" option then you may be best to re-install.

---------------------------

Have you tried running the program with XP Compatibility.
Right Click the X5 icon, select properties, compatibility tab.

---------------------------
Thoughts of a language issue--------------Have you tried installing the program using the UK/ English option?

I am running out of ideas, and i really think you should approach Corel Support?

hi lata

a warm thanks for messing up your system :)

one thing is really interesting ... your installation did not complete and your en-US folder has over 600 mb.
my de-DE folder has in fact over 600 mb too.
do you know what went wrong with your installation ?
ok you said there are left over temp files. but why ?

i have tried x5 for uk. but no change.
and i have contacted the corel support.
i am really curious for the solution.

Hi

well i am back up and running, so no problems.

The 600 Mb files are temporary in the ukMgrCache folder, these are normally removed once the program has successfully started, leaving the size to 47 Mb

My problem started when i set the Read Only option for the installation folder.
I was unable to restore the read only, think there was just to many files, even though i choose all files and folders.
I then tries replacing the folder, then gave up and re-installed.

I'm simply trying all i can think of to replicate the problem?

More thoughts,

Right click the X5 icon or vstudio.exe file for properties, check the security tab and the user permissions

hi lata

ok on my system the files in ukMgrCache were not deleted.
apparently anywhere between creating and removing these files my x5 stops working.

this is a major step forward ... i just don't know whereto.

I have the exact same issue and I've tried everything on this post.

No luck.

I even uninstalled it (Pro x6) and, after reboot, I manually deleted the registry keys associated with Videostudio. As explained here:

"Go to Windows Directory; delete the following folders\directories:

C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel VideoStudio Pro X6 or
C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel VideoStudio Ultimate X6\

Aside from the folders above, VideoStudio also creates a User folder. These folders may be hidden and could be shown by following these steps .

On Windows Vista\7\8:

C:\Users\[YOUR USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio Pro\16.0
C:\ProgramData\Corel\VSPro\Version16

Step 2: Registry Entry Removal

This section involves modifying the Windows Registry. It is recommended that you back up your registry before proceeding with this step.

Follow the instructions in the following Microsoft KB Articles for more information about the Windows Registry.

For Windows XP: How to back up and restore the registry in Windows XP
For Windows Vista: Back up the registry
For Windows 7\8: Back up the registry

1. Go to Start ? Run (Search Field on Windows Vista\7\8) and then type: regedit
2. Click on the OK button to launch Regedit window.
3. Go to "Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Corel\VSPro" delete the folder "16.0"
4. Go to "Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio Pro" delete the folder "16.0"
5. Go to "Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio Pro" delete the folder "16.0"
6. Go to "Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Corel\VSPro\" delete the folder "Version16"
7. Go to "Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products" locate and delete the following keys:

8. Go to Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18\Products ; locate and delete the identity enclosed in curly brackets that corresponds to Ulead VideoStudio Pro X5 (16.0.0.106):

10. Close the Regedit.

Step 4: System Clean-Up
1. Clean up temporary files and Recycle Bin by launching the Disk Cleanup from Start menu ? Programs ? Accessories ? System Tools ? Disk Cleanup
2. Restart your computer.

Step 5: Reinstall VideoStudio Pro X6
"

It just won't start. It hangs on startup.

Thank you, in advance, for your help...

Hi Peter

And welcome to the forums

The post refers to Video Studio X5, I assume you are having a similar issue using X6. If yes I we can edit the title of your post.

There have been some issues regarding browser plugins, Browser Protect, Babylon etc. in fact any non standard tool bars, some are simply malware.

A search of this forum and the Knowledge Base will give more details

Thank you so much, Trevor,

I checked and I don't have either the Babylone or other unwanted extensions on my browsers.

Anyway, it's been 3 years I've been functionning on the same OS without reinstalling it. I've never waited for that long. So, I'll format Windows and I'm sure after fresh install, everything will back and running. And the good news is: I'll have the ultimate version on the fresh start. :-) There must be some conflicts between codecs, drivers and updates... after 3 years, it would be quite normal for Windows. LOL

By the way, I'm Peter Moore (aka ThePlot911). I have close to a thousand videos available on the web. Most of which, I've done exclusively with Videostudio (Except for logos, intros, outros). If you ever wanted to trade products and services for publicity, I've quite a large audience in the french community. 7 million views in 14 months (2011-2012). I started in 2003 with Ulead Videostudio 6 or 7 (I forget). I was living in Taiwan back then. And I've been using every new version since. I must admit that this Pro x6 is the most reliable and stable version so far. Keep up the good work! One down-side, there were more title templates on the Pro x5 and Pro x4 for downloads. I've been waiting for something similar for the Pro x6. Maybe I'll find satisfaction with the Ultimate version...

Thank you again for your time,

P.
