Importing .cr2 into VSP5

Post by Normant »

I have just moved to VSP5 from 4 and am having difficulty importing .cr2 files in Capture. Same photo files go satisfactorily into v.4 but are apparently ignored by the new version. Am I missing a setup or preferences step? Shall appreciate any help. Tks.

To make this point more specifically: I have created test folders containing mixed .mov, .jpg and .cr2 files - only the .mov are recognised. I have also created a test folder containing only .jpg and .cr2 files. On Capture, VSP5 reports "There is no valid content". Tks again.

As far as I know VS X5, does not support canon raw files, currently the supported input file format are BMP, CLP, CUR, EPS, FAX, FPX, GIF, ICO, IFF, IMG, J2K, JP2, JPC, JPG, PCD, PCT, PCX, PIC, PNG, PSD, PSPImage, PXR, RAS, RAW, SCT, SHG, TGA, TIF, UFO, UFP, WMF. So for the JPG that was not recognized, can you tell us how are you using VS X5 to recognize the files in the test folders?

Thank you for this helpful response. It is disappointing, though, to find that RAW files are supported, but not .cr2.

For the .jpg files, I used Capture/Import from Digital Media and received the message "There is no valid content" (in folders containing only .jpg and .cr2 and .jpg alone). A similar failure occurs when I use File/Insert media to timeline or library. The message then is "These files cannot be added to this project. These files may be of unknown file format, the computer does not have enough memory or the file is copyright protected". The result is the same when I right-click on the timeline.

I am puzzled that none of these issues arise when using VSP4 on exactly the same folders and files. I did notice, though, that 'Ottawayguy' seemed to be having a similar problem in his post of March 18, 2012. He was also trying to import .jpg and other stills, without success.

I shall really appreciate any input which you are able to offer.

I was able to import into VS X5 all the .cr2 images that I downloaded from this webpage: http://glasslantern.com/RAWpository/

But is it because I also have Paint Shop Pro X4 installed? Guess what? I'm not uninstalling it to find out.
