VS8 AC3 Plugin Question

Post by erock1 »

To anyone who has used the VS8 AC3(Dolby) pulgin I have a question, please.

I have found that in using the AC3 plugin I can only apply the audio conversion to Dolby in the "Share" disc burning stage and not when first creating a video file in the "Share" stage.

In the creating a video file I have tried to use the options selection and then looked at the dropdown selection of the audfio encoders available but there isn't a Dolby Digital selection. In the burn disc stage, when I select the custom tab and compression, I can select Digital Dolby from the audio choices.

Does anyone know if this is how the plugin is supposed to work?

TIA,
Erock

That's correct. UVS 8 could not capture directly in AC3 format and only supported importing from, and outputting to AC3. UVS 9 lets you capture into AC3 format without having to use Share.

Thanks THoff.

One other interesting or weird thing I've noticed with the AC3 plugin is that if I add an additional sound track or add music to the menus, the plugin will only encode these secondary audio tracks to Dolby and it leaves the actual video audio in LPCM?

Any thoughts or suggestions?

You should be able to apply ac 3 from Share / Create Video File.
But you have to use the 'Custom Option'

I found the best way is to create your own templates using 'make movie manager' via 'Tools'
You wont need to customize each time.

This will create a video file (Mpeg 2) containing digital dolby.

You can then burn without rendering again.

I think its wrong that ulead sell the plugin when you cannot use it to capture, it only does half a job.

If you cannot see the Digital Dolby option in either the ‘Make Movie Manager’ or Create Video File / custom / options Re install the plug-in again.

Thanks Trevor, I'll give it a go. BTW, I couldn't agree with you more. I've found the plugin to be a half baked problem app. I guess eventually I'll upgrade to VS9 :)
