using standard xml to sync with Imatch?

Post by Gerard2 »

I have used bibble in combination with imatch for a while, but especially in the B4 time. I am doing some test now how ASP and Imatch interact.

The trouble is that if I change something in ASP and force Imatch to update its xml things like labels and rating from ASP are shown. But if I then adjust these ratings and labels in imatch, they are not loaded into ASP. I tried refreshing, and i tried to merge metadata. It seems to me that the ratings are stored in the cr2.xml (the ASP xml) and that it ignores newer rating in the generic XML.

Is there any way to really sync these ?

You mean XMP (yes, it's really XML at it's root). I normally don't change ratings or tags from within IMatch--I do that in FastPictureViewer, but those settings are recognized across all three programs with no problem. I can play with it a bit, but don't recall ever seeing an issue--even in Bibble 5 days.

I am travelling at present and so it's hard to check this, but I thought that "Merge External Metadata" in ASP should work much as it did in B5. I'm fairly sure that this works for me, and that I've been able to sync ratings in both directions.

Are you working in file system mode, as I couldn't be sure that this will work in catalog mode? If it's still not working then it may be necessary to check your iMatch XML settings. The iMatch forum would be a better place to discuss that program's settings. Also, what file formats are we talking about? Just CR2? It's possible that there is a conflict between the sidecar and embedded XMP.

Ahhh yes, I forgot about that. Doesn't really affect me as I do almost all my metadata entry in iMatch, although sometimes I rate images in B5/ASP. The bug in essence is that non-blank values are overwritten with blank ones, isn't it?

if you do a "Merge Meta", yes, all images except the currently highlighted get blank entries. and that is the really bad part because if you dont crosscheck or have the keywordpanel open and see the color change to all green, the error isnt visible.

i only tested it in a separate folder.

so probably dont use until the bug is gone

so it should work both ways; how would ASP tell which star rating is newer: from the date of the xmp?
