Re: Cropping images to 16.9
Check your options on jpg save ie/ Load an image and do File --> Save As to desktop then bottom right click Options and see that your Compression Factor is set at 3 to maintain original Disk size.
If you could start a photobucket account you could upload images to there and would be able to see what you mean. You should have bars at the sides and not at the top and the image should remain at 900 pixels high.

Re: Cropping images to 16.9
Is this the image you mean?
http://i1164.photobucket.com/albums/q56 ... AGE943.jpg
I cannot see any bars there at all
The actual image size when you click through the thumbnail to get a larger image is 620 x 348
When attempting to post an image all you neeed to do is place your cursor over the image and a drop down box shows a Share|Copy box
Placing your cursor over the Direct Link window will cause it to be copied to your clipboard.
Then in a post here click Img button and paste that link (control V) between the tags.

Re: Cropping images to 16.9
Hi Kenneth,Thought I followed your instructions and ended up with this!
[/img
[/img]
I see you have been having real troubles with basics.
I was going to remind you that you could edit your posts here if there was something out of order.
In that quote I can see and perhaps predict what you have done. the
indicates that you clicked the IMG button alright, but when you went to paste the image URL by typing Control V you raised the control key before pressing the v and so you got the v between the img tags rather than the pasted URL.. You must press and hold the Control Key down and then hit and raise the V key and lastly raise the control key.
I would have thought if you knew how to edit you would have gone back and erased that portion. Then it looks like you pasted the URL , realised you had made a mistake and hit the delete key a number of times to correct, when you should have hit the backspace key. So you finished with "lbums/q564/editman1/IMAGE943.jpg" then went on and got confused and so that posting is a mish mash of half baked URLs
And this is what it should have looked like:

Re: Cropping images to 16.9
Because the script is producing the landscape image with 900 pixels height on a canvas that is 900 pixels high. You should never , never get top and bottom bars, only side bars. To get top and bottom bars indicates that you are resizing your image to less than the canvas height, or sizing the canvas height larger thaan your image height.

OK we seem to be having some difficulties here. Photobucket and this site have limitations on size or images that can be posted. Can you email me the large image that you are having troubles with , and your result full size for each.

Re: Cropping images to 16.9
Great tutorial -- thank you!
I do a great deal of aviation and sports photography; may shoot as many as 7,000 or so photos during an airshow. I screen them down to about 10% to 20% of the best in a slide view program then use Paint Shop Pro for cropping, 16:9 and enhancement. Because of image size and placement every crop is a bit different so I don't think I can use a script that you have so excellently described.
My challenge is that the aspect ratio doesn't hold over multiple resizings. I have to manually calculate every so often, 5 photos or so and then resize manually to correct what appears to be drift.
Additionally and more annoying, the pixel width and height boxes often default to 1:1 even though I can see that the crop box on the screen is clearly not 1:1. The aspect ratio width and height boxes will sometimes return to their correct setting if I go to another part of the program but this is time consuming and very annoying. Finally, and recall I'm working as fast as possible (my wife says I spend too much time on the computer!) the Maintain Aspect Ratio box seems to uncheck at random intervals. If I fail to note the uncheck in my admitted haste, I have to go back to Last Applied and manually check the 16:9 ratio. Takes time and is quite annoying, particularly if the height and width boxes have defaulted to 1:1.
One more thing that isn't on this subject: due to the large number of photos I'm working from an external hard drive. In order to reopen the file I'm working with following the completion of 10 to 15 photos I have to click through close to 10 layers to get back to the file. This too seems inconsistent as on few occasions the working file appears magically in file open. I realize this might be part of the Windows protocol but would appreciate any suggestions.
Thank you very much,
John Mitchell

Re: Cropping images to 16.9
Ok Here is how I would go with 1000s of pictures (presuming them all to be less than 16 : 9 and no panoramas.
(This will not work with panoramas which are more than 16 : 9 ratio)
1. Set up some folders on the desktop to work with . The desktop because they are easy to find. The ZZZ in front because in a tree list they will be easily spotted at the bottom. My suggestions are as shown.

Image Copies - contains copies of your original images. You will crop these in PSP and Save (not Save AS)
All images inthe Image Copies folder may be over written.
ZZZTemp - will be where your resized images are sent.
ZZZWorking - where all the new canvas images at 16:9 ratio will be saved.
2. Using Irfanview for a bulk resize -
Each of the following shows how to :
Choose Batch Conversion,

Setting up the images for resizing, and the save folder and acces to the advanced features.

Advanced settings for resizing to a common height in this case 900 pixels.

The script has already been mentioned earlier.
Here is a link to a contact sheet of the original images:
http://i477.photobucket.com/albums/rr14 ... alpics.jpg
and after the single script applied , all images both landscape and portrait are on a 16: 9 canvas:
