How do I get a Freeze frame at the begining and end of a Pan & Zoom Optical?

The best way to get a freeze frame into a video is to take a still image from the video then cut the video at that point and insert the still image and set it's duration.

To make a still image first get the image you want to freeze into the preview screen - set to 'clip' mode (under preview screen) - now go to "Edit" (top left of screen) click on it and from the drop down choose "Take a snapshot" - this will put a thumbnail into your library as well as an image file in your working folder. Cut the video at the insertion point, then drag the image from the library and drop it into the timeline and set it's duration to the freeze time you require.

Thanks for that info, what I want to achieve is a still photo (ok with this) then after a period ( a few seconds) start a pan and zoom and at the end hold the final frame. At the moment if I split the photo and start the pan and zoom there is a jump in the frame position. What I really want is to mark a Key frame at the front and end of the mvement.

well yes if it is a still image that would be the best way - you can set as many key frames as you like. After you have dropped the pan and zoom filter on the image - open the options panel and click on 'Customise Filter' - there you can add key frames and set the parameters you want at each one.
