I have a transparent PNG file that I want to overlap onto a background and be able to fill the transparent areas of the PNG with the background. I know you can do it for text but I can't figure out how to do it for images.
Please see my examples. M1.png is my transparent file. (not sure why the image is showing in black) I want to overlay this PNG on a background and have it come out looking similar to image m.jpg
To view these files themichiganopinion.com/m1.png themichiganopinion.com/m.jpg
Thanks

Re: Selection PNG files over background file
That's easy. Open both images that you want to use.
With the M1.png image selected go to the Edit menu and select "Copy"
Go to the image you want it to be on top of and go to the edit menu again and select "Paste as new layer" now you're already half-way there.
In your layers palette right-click on the background layer and select "Promote Background Layer", this will allow you to place it inside a group and move it around freely.
Re-select the layer with the M on it. Grab your magic wand tool. Make sure "Contiguous" is selected from the tool options. This will keep the selection limited to the outisde of the M.
Click on a part of the image outside of the M to select the outside area.
Select the Background layer again
From the layers menu select create a mask to "Hide Selection" so that the currently selected area is hidden and only the area inside the M is visible.
You can now move the background image to fit in a specific area inside the M. No deleting involved.
Here's a video representation of that proceedure in case you're more visual: http://youtu.be/Wjg0xfBNVQ8

Re: Selection PNG files over background file
LeviFiction ; Sweet. It worked. It will take me some practice to get proficient with it as sometimes I do something wrong but I'll practice. Thanks for the help. I appreciate it.
