Audio Drop Out During Transitions-VS X4

I'm using VS Pro x4 with one update installed. I recently created a disk for Zumbathon which was an ALS fundraiser. It was footage shot on a Canon HF S21 and the quality used was second from the best (sorry-I can't tell you the setting at the moment). I have used this camera and this setting for other videos and have never had an issue. Basically I took about 10 clips and inserted them in the time line overlapping each which caused the program to add a transition clip at random which I expected. I viewed the 4 minute video in the edit mode and all was perfect. The transitions were awesome and matched the beats of the music. These clips involved exercise footage with music playing in the background and they were in HD.
After burning a disk, (AVCHD and DVD) I noticed an audio drop out between clips with transitions. Also some audio at the beginning of these clips was also clipped. I tried everything under the sun to get this right including replacing all the transitions. The only thing that worked was the following:

Splitting off the audio to a separate audio track which was a real pain. Do you know why I experienced the audio drop out only when rendering to disk or file--not in the time line? As mentioned, I have used transitions for years with this program and never experienced this issue before.

I'm sure someone has an answer as you guys (and gals) have always come to my rescue here!

I should mention I am using a new computer--way faster than my old one which also ran the program. I built it myself. Is it possible it is a computer issue and not a VS issue? The sound card is fine and functioning as it should. It's the latest and greatest hardware...i treated myself for Christmas!

Also I should add that I am aware that the audio should cross fade smoothly between the two clips in transition but the problem I am having is that there is a distinct drop out (no sound for a quick half second and sometimes clipping between the two--meaning the clip coming on has the first part of the audio clipped off)

Might this have anything to do with "Smart Render" being enabled? I have it set to "on" and wondered if I should disable as I have read many posts about it causing "blips" from a lot of other posters here...

Have you gone into audio view and looked at what happens to the audio line when it goes into the transition?

Yes. In audio view, the audio wave is not present in the transition. It does show however the outgoing clip fading out and incoming clip fading in but there is no audio shown where the transition sits

i listened and watched the clips again and it seems that the incoming clip is not fading in as it should by default and just slams in full force which is quite abrupt when i am expecting it to simply fade in

Go to Settings > Preferences > Edit tab

Under "Audio," is the option "Apply audio cross-fade automatically" turned on?

You'll notice a difference in the transition symbol when that option is on and off. With red dots on the symbol, you get the abrupt transition. With no red dots on the symbol, you get a smooth transition.

You will need to remove the existing transition, turn the option on, then add the transition again.

Thank you Kingston. I believe it is already on but I will check when I get home from the office. Actually, I do remember seeing the cross fade in the audio view...the outgoing clip fades (the down line indicates that) and the incoming clip is shown fading in with the audio line going down to up...it forms an "X" in the time line. I will double check again but I think it is set that way. Could this have anything to do with the fact that I am running a Win 64 bit machine?

If that option is already turned on, then I'm not sure what the problem is. I have a 32-bit machine, and when the option is off, I get an abrupt transition where the incoming clip starts without fading in. I've always been in the habit of turning that option off after installing a new version of VideoStudio. Later, when I separated the audio from the video and tried cross-fading the audio, I couldn't understand why the audio did that, until yesterday.

I think I have this solved. If you experience any blips, glitches, and/or audio clipping or dropping out during a transition in VS X4 with updates installed, look at this youtube video. It explains what to do---very easy work around--and it seems to have cured it for me!

I don't see how that's related to your problem. The YouTube example is a graphics drawing problem and has nothing to do with audio or whether frames are dropped out of video.

If the transition is glitching it is causing the video (most likely incoming clip) to glitch since the transition weaves the two clips together visually. If the incoming clip is glitching so is its audio stream. If the incoming audio stream is glitching with its associated video, then any fade in effect on that audio will be disrupted and or compromised which was the case with my experience. Following the instructions on the youtube video eliminated the glitch in the video and thus the audio.

Quite simple actually.
