PSP Newsgroups

Post by Phil Case »

Hi Everybody,
Does anyone know if the PSP newsgroups have been discontinued by Corel.
I can't reach them thru Windows Live Mail or directly by www.cnews.corel.com.
If they have been discontinued, does Corel have a substitute community site similar to the photography newsgroup.

Yes, I've wondered if the Corel NG servers are down as I've not been able to login since early yesterday (Saturday UK time)

Hi Phil :-)
I have had the same problem.
I noticed it Saturday morning just when I was submitting my latest Challenge masterpiece..
I hope it's just a glitch, it has happened before, but usually only for a few hours.

On the other hand.. Corel have pulled this stunt before, when they took over from Jasc.
One day there was a forum, the next day there wasn't.
But then they do the same to their staff. the only difference is that they pay the staff and the customer pays them. A shame they haven't discovered that yet.
Hope to see you in the groups!
:-)

All Corel News groups are now offline, not just PSP ones.

Hi Everybody,
If the PSP newsgroups are indeed down, PSP photo users can migrate to the Corel DRAW Suite forum "general_graphics.photo_editing".(See: www.corelDraw.com )
1. Judging by the name, it is intended for all Corel users including PSP.
2. This forum and all other CorelDraw forums can be viewed as NTTP newsgroups. Very nice.
3. It takes a little bit of mumbo jumbo to get registered for the DRAW forums and then go through the ritual of getting a Live Mail account, entering your password, and downloading the newsgroups that you want.
4. It's explained better in the CorelDraw forums than I can do.
Phil
PS: Now, how do we coax Corel to bring up the PSP photo newsgroup again in order to tell everyone about the "general_graphics.photo_editing" forum and its newsgroup reader.

The newsgroup has proven invaluable over many years and many PSP users have learn't a lot from experienced users. The regular PSP Challenges have attracted much attention and encouraged photographers to develop their PSP skills as well as making better use of their cameras.

Todate there have been almost 90 such challenges and entries and details may be viewed at this link

http://***.net/psp-challenge

Let's hope this group is allowed to continue as an ambassador for Corel.

Hi to all...

I had seen the most recent Challenge--Glass.....also having the same trouble accessing the Corel newsgroups... guess it had to happen.. 'it sure don't look good'.. as Chester A Riley used to say... " what a revolting' development this is" ( Life of Riley TV show 50's)

Ray...

It's now 6:00 AM Monday 23rd April (St George's) in the UK and still no connection to the Corel news servers.

(Very old apocryphal joke).

Perhaps the janitor/cleaner came in last week and unplugged the server rack to plug in the vacuum cleaner and forgot to switch it back on. ;-)

Hi All

If this was an intentional act by Corel, I am not surprised as PSP Photos is the only really active group left on Corel Newsgroups.
Does anyone have a suggestion as to where we should go now if we cannot get Corel to switch us back on?

Don't hold your breath.. but .. it isn't daylight in Ottawa yet, so am waiting until Corel in Ottawa wake up to see if they really have pulled the plug without telling anyone, which would be really really bad manners.

PS: Have just seen your message in the comp.graphics.apps.paint-shop-pro group and also DaveTriffid's.
This newsgroup (or lack of) thing is sooo frustrating.

How about here ?
Everywhere I query the lack of newsgroups (soooo much nicer than the forum format), I am told that newsgroups are passé and I'd better get used to it :-(

I assume we are being 'encouraged' to use the forum, so might as well continue the challenge here if the newsgroups don't reappear.
Narelle & Ken have already set up the new challenge page, with the help from Peter (their son). After all that work, it isn't very friendly for Corel to just pull the plug without bothering to tell anyone. But maybe it is just a glitch (am clutching at straws here..).

Hi,
When I try to log on to the WP newsgroup on cnews.corel.com or cnews.corel.ca I get a response that the connection is refused. Is this what happens when the newsgroups are down? Have they maybe changed the policy?

I have no idea what's happening, Corel (the company that puts "Corel Cares" on their website) usually don't tell their loyal customers what's going on.
Have just posted again in Corel Your Way.
The resident Corel person, Jen, is trying to find out.
Let's hope it all sorts itself out and they haven't pulled the plug..

The newsgroup (Not Corel) I've also posted about this problem is still running, so perhaps as a temporary measure we could move there. (Well I've never moved away).

comp.graphics.apps.paint-shop-pro

BTW. Those are hyphens between the paint-shop-pro
