Where are all the DVD menu templates in VideoStudio Pro X5?

Post by MailmAn »

I recently purchased Corel VideoStudio Pro X5 Ultimate and installed it on my system. Previously, I had VideoStudio Pro X4 installed and I uninstalled it after I upgraded to X5 Ultimate. However, for a software program that purports to be "Ultimate", it is anything but! My version of VideoStudio Pro X4 had tons of sample photos, videos, and music tracks. However, X5 Ultimate comes with basically NOTHING! I lost all of my background photos, sound effects, music, etc. when I uninstalled X4 and for some dumb reason, X5 Ultimate comes stripped the hell down and comes with nothing! I also noticed that all of the DVD menu templates are now gone in X5 Ultimate. I used to have about 20-25 or so menu templates in VideoStudio Pro X4, but when I installed VideoStudio Pro X5 Ultimate, they are ALL GONE!!! There is like one or two DVD menu templates when you choose to share your project as a DVD. What gives, Corel!?!?! I didn't pay $80 to downgrade my VideoStudio to an inferior product!!! I am not very happy at all with this situation. I thought I would upgrade to a newer version to help solve issues I was having with X4 randomly crashing and taking extraordinarily long times to recompress videos or to burn a DVD (I literally had to leave my computer on for 4 days straight running VideoStudio Pro X4 to create a DVD of a video that wasn't even 2 hours long!!!) However, I ended up paying more and getting less in the end.

My recommendation to anyone thinking of buying VideoStudio X5 - SAVE YOUR MONEY!!! Stick with VideoStudio Pro X4 if you already have it. If you're looking to buy a version of VideoStudio and don't already have one, buy X3 or X4 - up to you. Some people seem to really like X3. I never owned it personally. I had a version of Ulead VideoStudio 11 that I had for a long time - I loved it! I upgraded from that directly to Pro X4, skipping over a few other versions. It seems the farther away Corel gets from the Ulead versions of VideoStudio, the worse it gets!! I doubt if I will ever purchase another piece of software from Corel at this rate. Waste of damn money!!!

I can only assume that when you un-installed X4 you also removed much of the content from X5 as well. my X5 came with a large selection of DVD menus, project templates, background pictures, music, sample videos etc. - and I have been able to download even more through the 'Do More' section of the Corel Guide.

You can also use all the extras you had in X4 in X5 so you haven't lost anything - if you deleted all the extras from X4 then put them all back into X5 - you have not lost anything, everything you had in X4 can be used in X5 - plus the content which is supplied with X5.

The VideoStudio Pro X5 Ultimate programme is IDENTICAL to the VideoStudio Pro X5 programme - the Ultimate programme is so called as it comes with a number of extras and add ons - somewhere you have/had a lot of content - what happened to your X4 content and where has your X5 content gone.

The bottom line is that if you made your "recent" purchase within the last 30 days you should contact Corel Customer Services and arrange a full refund for your purchase.

Well, if that WERE the case, then I should have gotten all the content back when I reinstalled it. I tried reinstalling both X4 and X5 (I even have both on my computer right now even though I didn't when I wrote this post) and I still have no DVD menu templates in X5! Also, for some reason, I don't have them in X4 either! IDK where they all went!! I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling both X4 and X5 multiple times now and I still have no menus in both programs. IDK what I did. There is nothing in the extra features on the X4 disc and the extra content CD that came with X5 is only a couple of FX plugins. I tried copying the Menu Templates folder in the Content folder in X4 over to X5 and I still have no new menus. What gives!?!? Plus, wen I uninstalled X4, I did NOT check the "Delete all user content" option, so it should have left all my templates and sample project files, etc. if it were a properly written program uninstaller. I'm just at a total loss here!!! Help!

Can we check if the menu templates are on your computer even - the templates are stored at C:\Program Files (x86)\Corel\Corel Video Studio Pro X5\Content\Menu Template\ + subs for the X5 and a similar path but X4 instead of X5 for the X4 programme. Then we will know if it is an installation problem or a problem with VS finding the correct folder.

It's difficult for me to tell you how many you should find in each folder in the default installation because I have downloaded extras and moved some from previous versions but you should see more than you have suggested you have.

You could try downloading a few more by looking for a free menu pack in the 'Do More' section of the Corel Guide - if it does not open automatically when you start VS it can be opened by clicking on the round orange "clock" up in the top right corner of VideoStudio

I also do not get any dvd menus to download in the "Do More" section of the Corel Guide in the program - on either the X4 or X5 versions! All I see are some HD Projects and a bunch of FX filters it looks like. I didn't even get that at first. When I first looked in the "Do More" section, there were only two icons and both were to go domnload some $100+ FX filters or something from a third-party site.

There are a lot of sub-folders under my C:\Program Files (x86)\Corel\Corel Video Studio Pro X5\Content\Menu Template\ directory. To start, there are 4 main sub-folders: "4x3", "16x9", "HD Basic", and "HD Popup". Under "4x3" and "16x9", there are 4 additional sub-folders: "Customize", "One Scene Button", "Scene Button", and "Text Button". Under "HD Basic" and "HD Popup", there is a "16x9" sub-folder and under that are "Customize" and "HD Basic" and "HD Popup", respectively. All told, under the "Menu Template" directory, it says there are a total of 35 sub-folders and 345 files. However, in VideoStudio when I go to create a DVD and go to the "Menu and Preview" tab, there are a grand-total of only FIVE, that's right, FIVE DVD menus available. I had a LOT more available than that before with just X4 before I installed X5. And for some reason, I can't even get them back wen I re-installed X4 again! There are only 3 SmartScene Menus, 1 Thumbnail, and 1 Text menu, giving me a grand total of FIVE DVD menus I can use.

What gives!?!?

I had similar issue when installing X5 with X4 already installed on my system. During X5 install I noticed that my DVD drive was reading the data in strange way. After install when I open X5 there were only few sample files in library. Luckily I had a drive image backup so I could restore it. For the next attempt I copy entire DVD content to a USB pen drive and install from there. It went fine this time and I have all sample files in both X4 and X5. Not sure if this will help in your case, but I am just sharing my experience.
