VS X4 PRO create dvd using 4.2GB MPEG reports 6.6GB

Post by schlitch »

Hello!

I've read through numerous post over the past few weeks and have attempted to understand most of them. Followed much of the advise. So today I use a dvd maker freeware program...load this mpg file and it creates the dvd folder and I create the image from that. Total size is 4.2 and it reports using 94% of the dvd available space. Freeware program puts in extra screens advertisements so can't use it.

I attempt to use the share-create disc and import same mpg file and it reports in the bar that its 6.48GB. To me this is a problem and I can't understand why it reports it as 2.2GB larger than the actual file size. There is no menu its from a new project, nothing imported to the timeline, just open, create, import and wow my OS and every other program must be reporting it wrong. hehe.

Anyone seen this and found a solution?

TIA!

Hi

Welcome to the forums.

A standard disc holds 4.3 Gb of data.

The DVD itself uses Mpeg2 type video. The bit rate used controls the size of the file.

As a guide
Using 8000 kbps will allow for 60 minutes of video per disc
Using 6000 kbps will allow for 90 minutes of video per disc
Using 4000 kbps will allow for 120 minutes of video per disc.

I'm guessing that your video file is using approx 5000kbps
Video Studio is trying to convert this to use 8000kbps hence the 6Gb file size.

--------------------------------------
Give us some details regarding your video file.

First Settings - Preferences-Tick--Show messages when inserting first video file
Start a new project-add your video file, an info window should open requesting matching the project properties.
Choose Details, copy and paste the details in the right hand panel (video Properties) to this post.

Choose Yes to change the project properties.
Delete the video from the timeline
Choose Share create Disc
Add video file.

View the Cogwheel lower left for properties, they should reflect the video files properties.
No need to change anything except the Navigation Controls in the lower panel.

If the above does not work, right click the video file and select properties , What are they?
