I really love WinDVD 10 for its rich features and neat package. There's no clunky UI or unnecessary features like you get with PowerDVD 12. It's to the point and offers the best DVD upscaling out there. Therefore I was really disappointed when I donwloaded the WinDVD 11 demo. What I hoped for was better and maybe more options to improve the picture, especially when it comes to DVDs. I was really disappointed when I found that there are fewer alternatives and that the DVD upscaling is worse than what you get in WD10. It doesn't matter if the speed and performance are better when the most important feature: the picture quality, is bad when upscaled. Blu-rays look nice though.
HOW TO IMPROVE
I have a few suggestion as to how you can address the problems and make the twelfth version the best version yet:
*Use one live-action film, one anime film and one CGI film when you are working with the upscaling engine
- Live-action: New Police Story with Jackie Chan - it has fast action, dark sequences and bright sequences
- Anime: Naruto season 1, episode 1 - it's one of the most popular animes and it's really colourful
- CGI fim: The Incredibles - colourful, fast and with smooth textures, making it ideal for testing the upscaling engine
*Add the previous options for video, found in WinDVD 10
- The options found in WinDVD 10 are really superior and opens for a more customized experience. Less is sometimes more, but not in this case
*Make the smart stretch feature usable
- As it is now, it morphs the picture. The middle gets thin, while the rest of the picture is stretched. It doesn't matter how you adjust it, the point where the slider is stationed will get thin, while the rest will be stretched. As a result, the picture looks weird and the subtitles are often hard to read
*Fix the 4:3 to 16:9 conversion
- 4:3 to 16:9 conversion should be easy to do. PowerDVD 12 does this without making the picture look too stretched. Please fix this feature! Almost every anime is released in 4:3, so it's really needed

If you manage to do this right, you can advertise that you have the best upscaling and that it's optimized for live-action, animation and anime.
The anime part is a huge selling point, so get it right!
