If an Object, Button or Text is assigned a Subtitle Track, all appears well in the DVD emulation mode. However, when the DVD is burned and played on a set-top DVD player, and the button is selected in the menu there can be up to a 30 second timeout period before any other operation occurs. This only happens when a button is used specifically for a subtitle, you can select one using the remote without a problem.
When the project was started, the delay was measured at six seconds; now that the project is almost complete with the addition of other video and menus (but no other subtitles), the delay is twenty seconds. An earlier attempt at this DVD project had a delay of thirty seconds, and prompted a project rebuild.
The problem doesn't occur when the DVD is played on a computer, only on a stand-alone DVD player. (I have tried many with the same result).
The subtitle file has a file size of 158kB; it accompanies an MPEG2 (.m2v) file that has a duration of just over an hour. The audio for the video is a separate 48khz stereo .wav file, and the desired output for audio on the DVD is LPCM (not mp2 or AC3).
As can be imagined, having the menu apparently 'lock up' for twenty seconds is unacceptable for a commercial project, which is what is being worked on at the moment. I have a rapidly approaching deadline, so I would appreciate an early reply!
Time delay when trying to play a Subtitle
I don't have that problem. It sounds as if it's defaulting out of the sub-title menu, rather than being directed. Are you sure you have the playlist specify the main menu or whatever, after the sub-title instruction?
