X5 is so much slower than X4

I have just purchased X5 hoping that it would be faster, better, etc.

It's slower ... much slower. Using the up and down arrows when viewing a clip was nearly instantaneous on X4 but on X5 response time is measured in seconds.

Are there tweaks I should be aware of?

The program is basically unusable for me.

I have 8GB ram and only 47% of physical memory is used. AMD A6-3650 2.60 GHz. Windows 7 64-bit.

How can I get back to X4?

Follow up ...

I reinstalled X4 ...

And the speed was as before. Responsive.

I have both versions and didn't recognize X5 being slower than X4. What do the up and down arrow keys do? I read Help, but I couldn't find any reference to their usage.

Is Smart Proxy on in one version but not the other?

I have both X4 and X5 installed at the same time. You don't have to uninstall one in order to install the other.

What is the video and audio format of your clips on the timeline? Right click and select properties on a clip on the timeline. Then copy and paste the information in your next post. How many minutes or hours is your movie? How many clips are on the timeline? How many tracks are you using?

Place your cursor in the "time stamp" area of the clip being viewed (see picture). In the photo below I clicked on the minutes area.

Once you have entered a time code in the 4 fields (hours, minutes, seconds, frame) you can then click on any of the 4 fields and use the up and down arrow keys to move frame by frame, second by second, minute by minute, or hour by hour.

In X4 this operation runs about as fast as I can tap on the keys. On X5, it is about one second between key strokes.

Thank you. That is moderately useful information. Sadly Windows 7 no longer associates *.VSP files with X4 when X5 is installed even though I change file type association. I have to get rid of X5 to get the associations to work.

Movie length is 0 as nothing has been selected yet. What I am doing is starting a new project and using the video below to fetch clips from. Moving around this video in X5 using the arrow keys as described above is SLOOOOOW. On X4 it is nearly instantaneous.

I have isolated the problem.

About 25% of the mpg files that I have exhibit this problem.

The smallest one I have that exhibits this problem is 750 megs.

Anyone want to try to replicate this problem if I FTP them the mpg?
