Hi everyone,
I just purchased a portable audio recorder, a Zoom H1, to replace the built-in microphones on my JVC video camera. I did this to be able to improve the audio component of my finished videos. I planned on using the audio wave form display that shows up when you activate the Sound Mixer component of VideoStudio. I am recording in .wav file format, as I read previously on this board that VideoStudio works better with wave files than with MP3's. When I put the wave files onto the timeline, and activate the Sound Mixer, It says it is loading the sound data, but does not display the complete wave form info. I have tried recordings made at different qualities, with varying results, as follows:
44 Khz 16 bit - does not display any wave form data
44 Khz 24 bit - displays wave form for part of the file, but not all
48 Khz 16 bit - does not display any wave form data
48 Khz 24 bit - displays wave form for part of the file, but not all
I am going to continue working with this, but thought I would run this by the knowledgeable Users on this board and see if anyone else has run into this problem.
Just for grins, I tried the same audio files in VS X4, same thing.
I hope someone else has a solution for this situation. Maybe I'll play with MP3 format files, just to see what happens. I'll let you all know.
Thanks, in advance, for any feedback I can get.
Larry
Update
As I mentioned above, I tried recording a file on the Zoom H1 in .mp3 format. The audio properties, as repported by VideoStudio were 44 Khz, 16 bit, 192 Kbps. This file was accepted by VideoStudio with no problems displaying the complete wave form for the complete file. Which it did not do for the .wav files created by the same recorder. I will do a complete test on Sunday, when I will try recording our church service as an .mp3 and videoing the service and see how it works with syncing the two files. I'll let you know how it works.

How many minutes or seconds are the audio files that you tested?
Stereo or mono?

Re: VS X5 not displaying audio wave form
Hi Kingston,
All of the files I have tried so far have been two minutes, or less, in length. They were stereo recordings. As I mentioned earlier, I am going to use the H1 for it's intended purpose, that is recording sound for videos that I take of church services, this weekend. This will be the first time I use it for an extended period of recording. I will also be plugging it directly into the church sound system, so I can record the sound as picked up by the better microphones used by the sound techs. I'm excited to see how that works out.

Hi
Seems strange that it is happening with all types.
As a test place the audio samples in the timeline, Share Create Sound File, choose Options to set the properties and compression type.
Does the new file work ok.
Can you make the audio samples available so we can test them.

Re: VS X5 not displaying audio wave form
I created some audio files in Adobe Audition CS5.5 that are 15 minutes long each. Each was created from the same 15 minute WAV file of a thunderstorm.
The 44KHz,16 bit and 48KHz, 16 bit both show complete waveforms, although the waveform for the 48KHz looks as though the amplitude is less throughout than the 44KHz file.
The 44KHz, 24 bit and 48KHz, 24 bit both crashed VideoStudio, or caused VideoStudio to stop responding, after I dragged them from the library to the timeline. I could see that my CPU was really struggling with the 24 bit files.

Re: VS X5 not displaying audio wave form
Hi Trevor,
I am unable to attach any of my sound files for upload to this board. When I do Share/Create Sound File the Compression settings are the same as what VS X5 reports from the Properties window.
Kingston,
It is interesting that creating the .wav files with a different program seems to have them working with VideoStudio. I have Wavelab LE 7, which came with the Zoom H1 recorder. Maybe if I make a small change to the file, then resave it, then VS will like it better. I'll try that.

Hi Larry
Can you confirm that creating a sound file using Video Studio also showed the same problems.
File sharing, unfortunately the forum does not support this option.
Some forum users have used a program called 4Shared which seemed to work well.
