AfterShot Pro is not working with .nef files from the Nikon D800E.
Tried under both LInux and Windows (with the version showing 1.0.1.10 under Help>About AfterShot Pro) after I suggested a D800E owner give AfterShot Pro a try since he thought LR4 was slow.
Well, he did (downloaded it and installed it), and reported it wouldn't open the .nef files from a D800E, but could from a D800. He's using 64 Bit Win 7 on a very powerful PC with a Core i7 3770K, 32GB of memory, etc.
So, I tried them myself under both Windows and Linux. Same thing. It does open .nef files from a D800, but it does *not* work with .nef files from a D800E.
I tried using the D800E .nef files from the imaging-resource samples page here:
http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/n ... 800eA7.HTM
I also tried them from the D800/800E review page at dpreview.com here:
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/nikon-d800-d800e/33
The D800 .nef file opens (of course, I unzipped it first). This one:

The D800E .nef file does not open. This one:
http://movies.dpreview.com.s3.amazonaws ... 87.NEF.zip
Again, same symptoms using the samples at imaging-resource.com. The D800E .nef files do not open (and a user trying AfterShot Pro reported the same thing with his files).
See his comments on it this thread, where I suggested he try AfterShot Pro:

I'm replying to it now with a link to this post.

Go to Bugs and Suggestions, look up nef.800e not recognized, 800 ok. It tells how to use exiftool to rename 800e files so that ASP will recognize.
