MF3 not responding - cpu usage 100%

Post by mcmattyfresh »

I continually get a program "not responding" lock up after I add media to MF3. Windows task manager shows my cpu usage at 100% during these episodes and I have to ctrl-alt-delete to close the program. I am running: Athlon Xp 2800, 120GB HD, 512MB RAM. Any ideas?

What is the source of this media and what are its properties?

Hi,

As phd said, the attributes of the videos you are using will help.

Something else I've noticed -- I get this occasionally. When it happens I re-boot the computer, and immediately shutdown my virus scanner and spy-detection software.

Not sure if it will help, but might be worth a shot?

All of a sudden, I am also experiencing this problem. Using trial and error, I found it was somehow related to a video file I cpatured. Funny thing is is the video file was part 1 of 10 captured all at the same time from the same tape. The other 9 videos worked just fine. I will eventually go back and re-capture this piece to see if it is "bad inside". I can play the file ok. I can load and edit the file in Media Studio Plus 6.5 ok. I will update status as I figure it out, but I run out of time as I am creating 12 DVDs every 3 days or so of basketball games...

I do know that MF3 seems to tetter on the edge of working/not-working all the time. If it weren't for the motion menus, I'd stay with MF2. For example, I have found that MF2 renders a better looking, no jitter, and smaller sized files. So using MF2 I can get more on 1 DVD and it looks better. To try and get the same in MF3, I had to turn on the advanced mpg setting button via the registry and try to "copy" MF2's settings in MF3. Even then to get rid of the jitter was a frustrating exercise in trial and erro. To get the same quality in MF3 as I have in MF2, the settings I found seem opposite at time (upper/lower fields), and just do not seem to be rational. I wish there was some detailed documentation on ALL of the setting available to used in MF3. Documentation of the setting and why one needs adjustments is definitely one of ULEAD's weaknesses (in all of their products IMHO). I also wish ULEAD would issue bug fixes in a more timely fashion.

Also, it would be nice if MF3 saved the advanced mpg settings when the project is saved. If you don't go and check, the "fields order" setting gets changed (seemingly random at that!). Perhaps its time to move on to DVD Workshop?.....Biy I guess this sure turned into a ramble - sorry.

You can create and save your own Project template settings.
1. Click on the little list icon in the lower left (or press Alt+G.)
2. Select "Disk Template Manager"
3. Select Disk format for DVD, SVCD, or VCD and select "New" and create any profile you want.

I think my initial problem (see first post) was related to using .wmv files. When I re-encoded the video to MPeg 2 the program ran much more smoothly.
Thanks.
