How to view the Layers Palette

Post by Phil47 »

Looking for help again.
Once upon a time when I was experimenting before, I was able to see the different layers listed on the RH side of the workspace.
Now they are not appearing at all. I have searched the Help Centre high and low and read pages of advice but still cannot view the list of the layers I have created.
This in turn means I cannot work on them. And yes, I have got the View>Palettes>Layers box ticked.
Can some kind person PLEASE tell me how to view these layers listed before I go completely mad?
Thanks so much.
Phil.

It's possible your workspace became corrupted.

You need to reset your workspace to factor defaults. Sorry if you've made a lot of changes, these will be lost and you will have to start from the beginning.

You can either go to the File menu and select File->Preferences->Reset Preferences. You'll see an option in the dialog that pops up for resetting the workspace.

Or with PSP closed hold down the Shift key and double click on PSP's icon on the desktop. It'll ask you if you want to reset the workspace to factory defaults. Say yes and hopefully you'll be able to see the layers palette then.

Thanks. I reset factory defaults as you suggested but it made no difference - the layers pallette did not appear.
I did not lose any changes as I had not made any. I am an extreme beginner finding it very hard to do anything creative.
I can do all the general things to photos like trimming and sharpening etc no problem.
But having no layers palette makes things rather hard.

I don't often think of this option but have you tried hitting Ctrl + Shift + T.

This will snap all floating palettes to the center of the screen. Maybe it just got lost.

Yes, tried that too and just got a Histogram window pop up in the centre of the screen. I think that is what happened before when you suggested resetting the factory defaults.

BTW, View>Pallettes leads to 11 items including Layers (and Histogram) and all are ticked. Where are they? I am very confused.

Thanks again,

Phil.

Is there any chance that it's just rolled up on the right hand side of the screen? Look along the right edge of the workspace and see if there's a little arrow. Click on it and see if the palette reappears.
Using Paint Shop Pro versions 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 12, 14, 16

LindaSue, yes that is where it was but there was no arrow there and only by trial and error with the mouse/cursor did it reappear - most unsatisfactory. I found several of the other palettes hiding in that general area too but located at the top somewhere.
Thanks again for helping.
