Can you try updating Direct X even though you may have auto updates activated,
the manually install has cured some issues with earlier versions of Video Studio

Run to extract files, create a folder on your desktop.
Run DXSETUP.exe file

The Screen Capture is new to us and so are the problems some users are experiencing
I don't have any problems in using the program using XP or W7, so as I cannot replicate the problem I find it difficult to suggest a solution.
The error "Prepare Record Failed!!! #42" means nothing to me.
I have tried deleting the working folder but the program auto generates another.

Can you contact Corel Support giving them the error code.
The more we report errors the better we have in getting a fix.

Hello, 1st post I tried to raise a question on the website but it says it failed. So here is the question
I am unable to record my game Il-2 flight combat simulator. I start the game and send to task bar. Then start VideoStudio 5 . Select Il-2 from applications click the red button and return to game. I then get a message that recording is complete and when I check I have a screen grab. No other program is using F10 or F11 Any ideas as its one of the reasons I am trying VS5 out. Is it possible to assign a joystick button to start/stop recording? I also have a message about no sound system present. I just want to record the game as played like FRAPS does.

I have the same problem, no any game can be captured by Corel Video Studio. I tried games from steam and from origin. Probably the best solution is to forget Corel and buy Fraps.
