Help, cool effect

Post by inmotion »

First time on the boards, and about a week with vs5. I am building a highlight video for my son who is a wrestler. I had the idea at the beginning to zoom in on one of his sr pics towards his eye. I want a the video to start in his eye but as zooming is complete it will end up full page video. Anyone have a clue how to do this? remember im a newbie, but really want to produce something cool for him. Thank you in advance.

put your image in the timeline - click on "FX" - this opens the video effects library - look for a filter called 'Video Pan and Zoom" - click on it and while holding the left mouse key down drag that filter down on top of your video. Now open the options panel (small blue tab just above right hand end of timeline) and click on "Customise Filter" - a new window will open with two screens use the left one to set what you want to see in your video which will be in the right screen - note that the timeline under those screens has a red Key point marker at each end - customise the one at the beginning to select the eye by moving the yellow blocks. Note that you can pan (move) - by moving the red cross - at the same time so if the eye is offset you can select just that - move the cursor to the end red key point and customise that to fit the screen. When you now run the preview it should start on the eye and zoom out.

If you want you can add extra key points so you can set intermediate effects

how are you inserting the image - are you putting it in the library and then dragging it into the timeline or are you right clicking and choosing to "Insert" in which case make sure you are choosing the "Insert Photo" option - either way there should be no problem with a jpeg.

I have no knowledge of the copyright or memory problems with a still image - but fingers crossed that one of the other members has a solution and will pick up on your problem soon,

I uninstalled it twice and still get the same response. Not only will it not let me insert into the library, it wont let me use anything from the library. It isnt a memory issue I just dont know what it is. Im getting frustrated. I can get it to do it on my other pc but i have no files on that one and would have to package it all up to move it over. It is alot of small peices of different matches. Any way to package it all up without have to move all the videos and music? Or is there another way of doing this. I would love to have it work here. :(

first I've moved your post here to keep your Pan problem all in one place. Have you now succeeded in getting your image into the timeline in VideoStudio - not quite sure what your doing now though - you originally wanted to start with a close up on the eye and pan out to include the whole video - does the method I gave you above not work - what happens when you try it. or are you now trying to do something different ?

Thanks Brian, It works with a jpg great. I could not believe how your instructions had me doing it in 5 min. But when I took his eye out in PS saved as png to preserve transparency in the eye (so the video can be show thru the eye) it will not give me the option to pan in and out as it did with jpg. I also save it in gif but had the same issue. By the way imprting images still not working on my laptop so im doing that part of the project on my desktop. Thank you and good morning

OK now I think I'm with it - you have a wrestling video in the top track and an image in the overlay with transparency in the eye - so you can see the video through the eye - you then zoom IN to the eye so you see the wrestling full screen. So you put the Video Pan and Zoom filter on the image in the overlay - I can zoom .png images no problem - but if you now have a .jpeg with a transparent eye then your good to go.

incidentally it's late afternoon here in the UK.

Hi Brian

Not sure but i think "inmotion" has a static image of the transparent eye and wishes to Pan & Zoom the video within the eye.

You are correct though "inmotion" needs to use the Video Pan & Zoom filter from the FX library but applying it to the video file on the top track.

Unless i have the wrong end of the stick

Most of this is correct except the pan n zoom works with the jpg but not the png, the png image is the one i need as it has the transparency in the eye

As I say I can zoom a .png image no problem - do you get an error message when you try it - or what happens when you drop the filter on the image and choose to "Customise Filter" - how about the .png images in the "Frame" library can you try zooming one of those - could just be your 'flavour' of png that VideoStudio does not like.

I have often used .tga images which also can have transparent sections - can you make and try one of those .

i am wondering if things like "Quicktime" and "Direct X" are up to date on your computer - VideoStudio uses all those sort of "extras" to provide the functions it gives.
