VSP X5 screen capture not working

Post by angelarch »

hi all-
My VideoStudio Pro X5 screen capture starts up, looks like it is about to start recording with a countdown, then pops up an error and stops.

When I saw X5 had built in screen capture I was elated, this was the feature I was most excited about. So as soon as I finished installing I tried it. . . was so disappointed that it wouldn't work. I have a 2 monitor setup, the capture window has the options to record from either window, but when I click them on neither side works. I tried just capturing applications, none work, same error. Tried making a custom window, on either monitor, big or small, still same error.
-
I've seen videos of it working in tutorials, so it must work somehow. I am surprised I am having a problem since I consider my system a fairly normal setup, if not better than normal.

I have a win7 64bit, G74SX, Intel i7, 16 GB ram, geforce GTX 560m 2GB, 1TB total HD.

The error popup says 'VSSCap' in the title bar, and "Prepare Record Failed!!! #0" in the body of the text.

Anyone know what that error is? Any idea if there is a fix to get this working?

Any help appreciated, thnx!

Hi angelarch

welcome to the forums

I have used the screen capture without problems, some users have had audio capture problems when capturing system audio.

The program is relatively new so not many of us have had experience in using it, certainly this issue is the first I have heard of.

I have tried a few options in trying to simulate your problem, although i do not have duel monitors.

Have you tried running the capture on a single monitor.

Corel Support may be your best option.

I have this same issue. Screen capture does not work..

I have uploaded a print screen capture of the error that pops up "Prepare Record Failed!!! #0".

This happens regardless of what I am trying to do a screen capture on. I can select a blank area on my desktop and get the same error.

The error popup says 'VSSCap' in the title bar, and "Prepare Record Failed!!! #0" in the body of the text.
I received that error message after I accidentally unregistered qcap.dll while playing around with the Codec Tweak Tool trying to fix other things. That file is found in C:\windows\system32.

Fortunately, I have a utility, RADLIGHT FILTER MANAGER, that let me register that DLL again. In Windows XP you can also register it from a command prompt with the command REGSVR32 c:\windows\system32\qcap.dll

Of course all of this means nothing to you if qcap.dll is already registered.

There are some windows you won't be able to capture, especially if video is playing in them, like when you are playing a DVD. Is that what is happening to you?

I think that because of copyright, no video playing will be captured... Al

I am having the same problem, where, whenever I try to screen capture its counts down with a pop-up saying "Prepare Record Failed!!! #15" as well.
I really want to resolve this issues as its the main reason for purchasing this software.
Though i have no idea what the issue is, however, looking at everyone's computer specs, there are a few people here with ASUS mother boards or ASUS manufactured rigs...
I have a ASUS ROG G75V.
Could there be an issues with some of the per-installed software?

Just a hunch..
Thanks

I was also getting the error "Prepare Record failed #15" during screen capture use (VSP X6). I narrowed it down to the screen capture audio settings in combination with using a headset with a mic (Logitech G930).

The Corel capture auto detects my headset microphone and turns on voice in audio settings upon program startup. However, I wanted to record the capture video's audio, so I switched it to system audio. The problem is the software experiences some conflict between Voice and system audio when a mic is detected.

Long story short, I unplugged my g930 headphones (mic built in) and I am now able to use the system audio setting to capture youtube audio again. The mic must be disconnected before program startup or it auto detects it. Also, I was not able to reconnect my g930 heaphones w/mic during use, as this also caused conflict.

Yes, what is the deal? My VS x5 works great. About 2-3 months ago I used the screen capture for a week, no issues. Before that my computer was in storage for about a year, anyway, I counted about 10-12 screen captures total produced since I installed VSx5. Now, just as above, it stop working and I'm getting the failed #42 code.
Thinking back what has changed.....windows 8.0 to 8.1 during that time. Thinking of "rolling back" to check it. Will keep you all posted.

Now I know! VSP X5 is simply not compatible with windows 8, 8.1 and corel will not do a patch for that! http://forum.corel.com/EN/posting.php?m ... =1&t=45986#
- corel just want us to buy VSP x7 wich is compatible with 8 and 8.1 - "so there is no need to bother with them and waste time any more".http://forum.corel.com/EN/posting.php?m ... =1&t=45986#
Will just have to save some money and buy VSP x7.http://forum.corel.com/EN/posting.php?m ... =1&t=45986#
