26MBps 1080p50

Post by erdna »

Hi Ken, you mentioned a workflow using movie maker template for creating high bitrate (>20Mbps) AVCHD files. Did you chech this with (fast) moving scenes. I get permanent short stops when playing them back, also on my mmplayer.
Creating the same scene with the X5 "standard" way (AVCHD 1920x1080 50P) @ 20Mbps plays OK

In fact, no I didn't. I just checked that it was possible to make a template using the Add method outlined, and I applied it to only one randomly selected -- and short -- video clip to make sure it worked. Unfortunately, about 95% of my own video clips tend to be slow in either zooms or pans, and the action in them is rarely fast. But I will try to find a fast moving and longer clip and see what happens...

Thanks for your reply Ken. In the URL hereunder I uploaded the file I tested with. It comes from my Pana TM700 set at 1080p50 (VBR 28Mb/s)

Thanks André. I have downloaded it and will play around with it later today. Can't do so right now as I have to get ready to go out to an early lunch!

I have now run tests, and have to agree that the templates I made using the Add function all produced unsatisfactory results with your video. I had both a 26 Mbps and 18 Mbps 50p template made this way. Both produced quick but heavy pixelation in a couple of parts, with this being less noticeable in the 18 Mbps one. Otherwise, they looked fine.

I also produced a new clip using Same As First Clip, one with SmartRender turned off. But both were still pixellated and the one where SmartRender occurred had the most pixellation of all my tries, and it happened almost throughout the new clip.

As you observed, using X5's own AVCHD 1920 x 1080 50p template produced a good result, though of course at 18 Mbps.

I don't see pixellation with or without smart render (playback with Power DVD). The thing I get with the 26Mb/s render, is the frequent stops during the playback. I also noticed when verifying the file properties in MediaInfo, that the "variability" in data rate goes from 6 to 30Mb/s. while the standard 50p AVCHD result is much smoother. B.t.w. Ken, why do you render at 18Mb/s instead of 20Mb/s? DVD doesn't take 50p anyway...as far as I know.

In all of mine the pixedllation was very obvious in the background trees, and in the worst pixellation one, in the water towards the end. The boat appeared to move smoothly in all of them, though the background in some of them seemed to flicker a little. There were no breaks or stopping.

The only reason I used 18 Mbps was because I did not think about using 20 Mbps! I don't have a camcorder which films in 50p, and the few hybrid DVDs I have produced are limited to 18 Mbps. But yes, I could have used 20 Mbps and probably would if I had such a camcorder and was using X5 to play back edited 50p videos via a USB stick or external hard drive on my HDTV.

I pop back and check how VS is going each revision for native AVC 1080/50p supports and:
+'ve: The new frame accurate timeline at 50/60 tics is great
-'ve: Anything rendered at higher bit rates (eg 26mbps) has great issues. My test files shows out of sync Video/Audio with the Video "stalling" and stuttering during playback. It is so bad it is unusable. The Std profile is fine however but it obviously re-renders the content.

From corel.com about VSX5 ("What's new"):

http://www.corel.com/corel/product/inde ... 50075#tab2

"VideoStudio® Pro X5 also supports the frame rates found in newer HD camcorders, so you can edit in 50 or 60fps mode, which is ideal for higher quality and slow motion effects in sports footage."
