Audio Sync Error in VS3Pro

Post by Phil Edwards »

I have a problem with audio in Video Studio 3. When I insert an AVI file into the timeline and edit it, the audio becomes offset with the video. I have tried just inserting the audio but have the same problem.
If I insert the audio file and click on Sound Mixer I can see the waveform of the file. Although I can hear the audio from the start, the first 1 second of the waveform is at zero and the waveform remains 1 second behind the sound.
If I pause the file and click the curser further along then the offset becomes much greater, around 30 seconds.
If I split the clip at say 10 seconds and delete the first 10 seconds then move the remainder to zero on the time scale, the the remaining file seems to have around 30 seconds missing from the start but the waveform shown stays correct.
I have tried with ripple editing turned on and off. Becoming very frustrated when trying to sync four cameras and their audio. Hope you can help. :?

Hi Phil
Welcome to the forums
a little confused as to how many different files you are using.
You seem to indicate that you have separate audio files, or are these part of a video file that has had the audio split?

So what files are you actually using?

Avi is just a container holding the video file of which there are about 800 different types.
Right click a clip in the timeline and select properties, do this for each type

What are the properties?

Hi Trevor

Thanks for your reply.Video clip being used is 720x576 Data rate 7318kbps Bitrate 7382kbps Frame Rate 25/sec using xvid MPEG-4 Codec Compression. Audi Bitrate 64kbps mono, Sample rate 44khz using MPEG Audio Layer2.

If I split the combined video/audio file at 20 secs duration, and delete the first part of the clip, the remainder automatically moves to 0 secs on the timeline.
The resulting video plays perfectly but the audi plays as if around 50 secs had been removed. However the waveform of the audio still matches the video.

As a workaround I have tried "insert into timeline" "audio file", then clicked on the original AVI so that it only inserts the audio from this AVI. If I then "share" this as an "audio file" it is saved as a wav. I then start a fresh project, insert the wav file, remove first 20secs as above. Sometimes the result is correct but sometimes I have the same problem. ie waverform timing is correct but audi played is about 30secs ahead from start.

Hope this provides sufficient description.

Hi

Xvid is a highly compressed format and can be difficult to edit.

What are you intending to create, a DVD or a video for the internet?

First try updating your Xvid codecs
http://www.xvid.org/

You may need to convert the files to a more suitable format, there is a program called Super that some forum members have used. Knowing what you are making would help.

Hi Trevor

Thanks for your advise. Have dowloaded and installed latest Xvid codec but to no avail. It is purely this type of file I am having trouble with. I have another camera which saves files as Xvid MPEG-4 Codec 24bit 640x480, Audio is IMA ADPCM 44,100khz 4 bit stereo. These files can be edited without problem.
The files will be used to create DVD. The cameras are used in our rally car and the camera with the problem is plumbed into the co-drivers mike, otherwise I would use the other audio tracks.
Have downloaded the super converter software. Which format would you suggest converting to, for editing and recording onto DVD.

Regards

Video DVDs can only use mpeg-2, so I suggest you convert to that.
