Boris Graffiti effect not showing in FX x4 ultimate

Hi, I have not used the Video Studio Pro x4 ultimate very much and had a lot of trouble when I first installed it with things not working as they should. I have just gone into it again to have a bit of a play and notice that the Boris Graffiti effect which was supposed to come with this version is not showing in the FX effects. I purchased this through download from Corel. Is there a way to get it to show up as it is one of the reasons why I upgraded to this version.Could you please make any instructions straight forward as I am not very good with this sort of thing. Hi Rae

Nice to hear from you, did you run the “VSX4_Ultimate_Bonus.exe” file that should have been provided as a download? I assume it is called that?

Unfortunately I do not have X4 ultimate so cannot check the location of the filter.
But select the FX library.
Choose the Special page, down arrow adjacent to the orange circle.
If it is not showing there, look through the FX “All” page

Hi Again Trevor, I did so many reinstals and even a system restore I am now unsure if the bonus.exe was reinstalled. I will do a bit more checking and then reinstal it. The download also came with some extra templates and flash thingos and I am not even sure if they are in the program. I will go through it all again and get back to you if need be. I think I was just so over it I could not bear to do anything else which might upset things, but it is no use having a program that you have paid for and don't use is it? Then, when I bought it along comes the next version!!! Thanks again, Rae

Hi I have spent a lot of time checking all the bonuses that came with the X4 Ultimate and I have installed successfully all the extras with the exception of the Boris Graffiti FX. I have checked with the specials and the "all " and it certainly does not appear anywhere. Brian Cee has given a site from Corel No. 000011224 and I have tried in vain to find the Mercali2 prodad vft file talked about. I do not wish to uninstal all the older versions as suggested in No. 3 of that answer and as mine was a download and not a boxed version I don't know how to go about doing the rest of it. I went into Program Files Corel and could not see the mention of prodad or Mercali anywhere. I will try and speak to someone at corel on Monday as when I phoned was told they were closed - must have had a half day off. Will get back to you. Any more suggestions welcome. Rae

Seems strange that Corel provide information regarding the missing ProDaD but only for the disc version.
For details regarding the downloads you have to contact Corel Support

If you view your Add and Remove Programs list from your Control Panel you should see Boris Graffiti listed:-

If you run the Bonus File again choosing Boris you may be given a choice to Uninstall or Repair, choose “repair”
Please close Video Studio before re-installing.

This image is from X5 but shows the thumbnail within the FX library, at least you know what you are looking for.

This was my experience with the downloaded version of X4 Ultimate. Mercalli showed up and worked in the FX, but Boris was missing. I would uninstall, reg clean, reinstall. I could see the Boris files being extracted, so it was in the download version I had (and I downloaded it again to make sure the download was not corrupt). No matter how many uninstalls, reg clean, reinstalls, still no Graffiti. Tech support took over the computer and looked and saw that the files weren't there, gave me a program called VS_Cleanup. Used that, reinstall, still no-go. Contacted Jennifer Topping in Corel Your Way, and she put me in touch with other techs. I got a lot of info from them including .exe files to do direct install. Still no Graffiti.
Then, I decided to rename the InstallShield folder to InstallShield_OLD in case I needed it again. I ran the X4 install and Graffiti installed just fine. I got to hand it to Corel tech and Jen, they were there to answer any questions and were trying to come up with a solution. Although I figured it out, they certainly were not slack at all in offering help that wasn't read from a trouble shooting manual.
In Win7 64bit, the folder can be found here C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\InstallShield

Hi all thanks for the help. You are very clever people and I am just a "hacker" I guess you would say. Firstly I went into add and remove programs and there was NO BORIS GRAFFITI there. How do you run the Bonus file and then choose Boris as suggested by you - if I click on the bonus file I only get the option of RUN or Cancel????? I have just gone into the C Program files again and I have found where Boris Graffiti IS listed. So I guess from that it means it is there but has not installed?? I have attached a copy of what I have found and you might be able to see what has happened? I have also attached what I have found in regards to ProDad????? I will definitely contact Corel on Monday and see if they can help.

From your answer TonyP as I understand it you went into the c drive and changed the name of the InstallShield to Install Shield_OLD - was X4 installed at that stage because you then said you ran the X4 instal again and Graffiti turned up.

I have taken the X4 off 2 or 3 times now and I did not really want to do that again. You see at first I did not have the Smart Sound to begin with and had to uninstall and reinstall until it turned up at last. This should not happen. Do these things still happen if you have the disc??? Each time I buy another version I think Ah this is it, I will just stick with this one and not worry about buying anything else and then something like Boris comes along and I buy but then have big problems. raejohn, no, X4 was not installed at that time. When I ran the install (I have the download version of X4), a new InstallShield folder was created. This time, I actually saw Graffiti really being installed. When I opened X4, it was now listed in FX.
proDAD is the company that sells Mercalli, along with Vitascene, Heroglyph, etc.
Smartsound (a vary valuable tool that I use in every video I do) installed just fine for me. Boris was what was causing me grief!
I now see Boris Graffiti for Corel in the "add remove" programs.

Hi Tony, So your suggestion is 1) to uninstal 2) Do all the cleanups and reg clean 3) go to C:\\ProgramFiles\CommonFiles\InstallShield (copy attached so I know we are talking about the same file) then change it to read _OLD at the end of it.
4) Reinstall - watching to make sure that Boris Graffiti and Mercali AND smart sound are loaded. Is this correct? Anything else.

I will phone Corel tomorrow morning and I agree with you they are great. I was just hoping that as the files seem to be there that they can just pluck them out and install them!!! I will run all this by them if they don't come up with anything else, but you seem to have had the same problem. I am running xp by the way.

I thought Mercali was part of the Boris Graffiti - what does Mercali do and should I keep going till I have these effects - are they worthwhile?? I have never used the smartsound maybe I will have to get some clues from you!!

One of the Fixes that Corel provide (the links Brian provided) also mentions resetting VS Pro to its default state.

Try this first just in case it works, may save you a re-install

The folder you re-name is called en-US, rename it to “en-US copy”

C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio Pro\14.0\en-US

A new folder will be created when you start Video Studio

Hi thanks Trevor, I was not going to rush into reinstalling as I really did not and do not really want to. I did not see that answer when I went into Brian Cee's web addresses. I just had another look at these sites and I felt that these directions referred to if you were runing a 64bit system. When/if VS X4 is restored to the default settings should that bring the Mercali and Boris FX into the program???

I will probably contact Corel first and put all these suggestions to them after I see if they have another answer.
I would really like to get this sorted over the next day or so and then when we come back from holiday at Easter I can just put together another little family movie.

You are all so helpful in this forum. When are you coming to Australia????

Hi all, I have been in touch with Corel and had them take over my computer to see what could be done. I was told initially to just remove X2 and X3 from my computer. I am not happy to do this as if I then have problems with reinstalling these two programs then I will not have support from Corel as they are old programs and at the moment they work OK. The rep tried to copy and add the Mercali and Boris to the program without success. Now I get a message saying proDad Mercali20Support.dll not found. Please reinstal Mercali or contact support @ proDad.com. (support copied the Mercali from X2 - obviously put there in error when installed).

Corel then sent me a download for Mercali and Boris via way of WinRAR. I am unfamiliar with this and am a little unsure what to do from here. I feel I must go into WinRAR and select Mercali and extract all, but where to???? If this does not work then I am totry what has been suggested by the forum - changing the install shield to -Old and/or restoring Defaults. If all else fails then I have to uninstal X2 and X3 reinstal X4 then X3 and X2 in that order.

Create a new folder and add the WinRar downloaded file

You have seen an option to “Extract All”, there may be an option to “Extract Here” which will open the file/files to this folder.
However using Extract All may default to the same folder.

Hi all, I have received the download of Mercalli and Graffiti from Corel and after a little trouble I have been able to instal them. Having said this, they both now show in Add and Remove programs however they do not show in Video Studio X4. I am back to the beginning again now and will most likely have to remove all the Corel Video Studio Programs from the computer and reinstal them unless I try to follow Tony's suggestion of renaming the instal to -OLD. Any more suggestions before I jump off the gap! Rae
