WinDVD will only play Blurays when DVDFab is installed

Hello Everbody

My computer came installed with WinDVD 8, I have tried a trial version of WinDVD 10 and WinDVD Pro11, plus the full version of WinDVD Pro 11.

However, none of them will play Blurays unless DVDFab or AnyDVD are installed and scan the discs first: then they play commercial Bluray discs fine.

All that happens without them is that WinDVD opens, I click on play, the disc whirs for a moment and then nothing.

I'm running trials of DVDFab and AnyDVD but I don't want to have to buy them just so I can use WinDVD (they don't work with my drive to remove region codes, so that wouldn't be a reason to use them).

The drive/software/disc regions all match, so it's not that the region protection needs removing by DVDFab or AnyDVD.

My graphics card drivers are up to date and I'm running Windows Vista Service Pack 1. My machine is a Sony VAIO AR51SU. Cyberlink's BD Advisor passes my machine fine for playing Blurays.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Removing DVDFab or AnyDVD may be affecting WinDVD in playing BD, you may want to first uninstall DVDFab, AnyDVD, WinDVD or any BD player on your computer then reinstall WinDVD 8 (you can download the windvd 8 for your vaio at http://www.sony.co.uk/support/en/produc ... 65463_6200) or download the trial of WinDVD 11 at corel.com/windvd.

Then come back here and tell us what happened.

Hello There

I have tried uninstalling AnyDVD, DVDFab and any Bluray player software on my VAIO and then reinstalling WinDVD Pro 11, it still won't play Blurays.

If you put a disc in in with WinDVD Pro 11 open, what happens is that the machine reads the Bluray for a few seconds, the system switches to Windows Vista Basic for colour compatibility and then nothing. After that, if you press play the disc whirs for a few seconds but doesn't play.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

PS That link is only for updating WinDVD8. I had already uninstalled WinDVD 8, as you suggested and then the update wouldn't work, so following your suggestion has made me lose the original WinDVD 8 that came with the machine.

Also, even with DVDFab/AnyDVD installed all the video effects and the 2D-3D Conversion button are greyed out and can't be used.

PS Do you know where I can download WinDVD BD 8, the full version, not the upgrade? After I had uninstalled the program and then when the link you gave wouldn't work, I tried restoring to an earlier point before the uninstallation but the restored WinDVD BD 8 won't open.
