X5 Template Installation Question

Post by jdowney »

Hi Everyone,

I currently have X4 Pro and X5 Ultimate installed on my computer, and both seem to work fine. I also have a copy of the "Positive Vibe Template Pack" and the "Daily Romance Template Pack". I obtained these along with my X5 Ultimate box shipment. Here is the problem, these template packs only install into the X4 directory. I need them to either install into the X5 directory, or have someway of coping the files from X4 to X5.

Has anyone else had this issue, and resolved it? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Best Regards
Jeff

PS: there is no option to select a directory during the template installation...

On my computer all additional and downloaded instant project templates seem to be stored in just one folder that on my PC is located at :-

C\Users\*username*\My Documents\Corel VideoStudio Pro\VSPTemplate.

I do not have the Ultimate version so it might be slightly different on your PC

then they are just imported to either X4 or X5 depending where you want to use them. In X5 open the instant Project library by clicking on the icon which looks like a magic wand over a video frame at the right hand side of the preview screen. Select the 'Custom' option and then in the top of the library pane is an icon like a little folder - it's tip says "Import a project Template" - click on it and browse to the templates - click on them and select 'open' - then 'open' again , and the templates should appear in your library.

Hi Brian,

Thank you for your help; however, it did not work.

The only files I found in C\Users\*username*\My Documents\Corel VideoStudio Pro\VSPTemplate were the ones I downloaded from the "Do More" Corel list. It believe that these purchased files from Corel may install themselves in a few places.

I have contacted Corel technical support and asked them how to directly install these video templates to the X5 directory, and they did not know the answer; however, they offered to refund my money for the purchased video templates...

These templates work fine in X4, and can be found in the Instant Project Select a Project (Beginning, Middle, End and Complete), but NOT in Custom...

Does anyone know a safe way of copying/transferring these files from X$ to X5 ? Thank you.

Best Regards
Jeff

Have you tried searching for those templates in your X4 directory - then creating an identical directory in X5 and copying the files over.

Hi Jeff

It does appear that the Template Pack installer has been written for X4. A bit remiss of Corel I must say.

If using X4 you add one of the Instant Projects to an empty timeline, it displays as a normal VSP, as that is what it is.

Now export this as a template, (file-Export as template) I would choose the VSPTemplate folder to save it to.
(C:\Documents and Settings\Trevor\My Documents\Corel VideoStudio Pro\VSPTemplate)(for XP)
I think this folder has been created by the X5 installation, Important that you use this.

Give the template a suitable name

Now open X5 and the Instant Template library updated to include the new template, showing in the Custom page.

Bit of a workround especially as you have a few to do, but seems to work

You may want to try the steps from http://corel.force.com/index/articles/e ... dio-Pro-X4

This is similar to Lata's steps.... just change VS X3 to VS x4 and X4 to X5.

HI Everyone,

First of all, sorry I am responding back so late, been away for a few days...

I have tried the X4 library trick, and while that works; it does not solve the problem. The issue is trying to copy the additional installed video templates typically found in the X4 Instant Project / Beginning/End/Complete etc over to X5 Ultimate. Ideally it would be nice if I could just install them, but the DVD only installs to the X4 directory...

I will try moving them one at a time to see if that works as per Lata and Brian suggestions. However, I think that during an installation the software/DVD installs the video templates in multiple directory locations, so copying is not as easy as it should be. This is probaly done on purpose by Corel, to prevent copying...

In the meantime if anyone has any other techniques/suggestions I would love to read them. Thank you.

Have you tried using the "Import a Project Template" icon in the project template library in X5 - then browsing to the templates so that they then appear in X5

Jeff

If the X4 templates were a download from Do-More or PhotoVideoLife then they would be available to be copied using Windows Explorer. They would be available within the Custom folder within My Documents.

But they were installed from a exe file (a menu pack) to show in the beginning Middle and End sections to folders somewhere in C/Program Files/Corel. and i dont know where????? If you provide me with one of the packs I will install it and try to find its location.

Otherwise
When you open the Instant Template using Video Studio X4 you are now looking at a VSP.
the files being extracted to create the project.
By Exporting the VSP as a new template and saving to the X5 folder (VSPTemplate) you are creating a new Instant Project that will be automatically available from X5, Instant Projects custom page. Its the only work-round I know

Did you try that option.

Hi Jeff

Thanks for the files, I have installed the small template and am able to create a new templates (File Export as Template) using X4.
The new template being saved to the X5 VSPTemplate folder automatically shows in X5 library custom page.

By the way I do not think the VSPTemplates folder shows until you have downloaded your first template from the DoMore options.
