Corrupted video file.

Post by Bo Boggs »

I have vacation videos that are corrupted. While still in the camera, they play and catalogue correctly. In the Sony Handycam utility, I get "Invalid management info", and they will not import. VSX4 will import the data, but the management info is really bad.
There are 24 clips in the camera. On import, all of them (but 2) are 998.41MB in length and show the first clip/first frame as thumbnail. When I place any of them in the timeline, they show 1:51.16 as length. When I hit play and get comfortable, the video runs for ~20 minutes (the time count stops at 1:51.16) and has all the clips in order and complete.
The 1:51.16 Happens to be the exact lenght of the first 3 clips, and the 2 exception clips are clips 2 and 3.
In trim mode (single or multi), the preview window is black after 1:45.09.
Is there any way to get to the video after the 1:51 mark?

In the immortal words of Roseanne Rosannadanna; "Never Mind!"
It helps to have many different tools available, Especially a DVR (and DVD-RW discs). I played the camera video through the DVR and then imported the DVD. I now have a nice multitrimmable 21:48 video file.
My handycam records on minidiscs, and I have saved this one. If anyone has a different suggestion, I'll be glad to try it.
