Newbie Audio Question

Post by johnrundle »

My DVDs need to have a commentary playing with each individual slide, and locked in time with each one, plus a background track running for the length of the title. Editing the tracks required is easy, but how do I get them to work in DVD2, so that the commentary is linked to each slide, while the background music, which doesn't need to be tied to any slide, plays through underneath?

Later I will also need to add another language with the commentary.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

With a DVD, you can have multiple soundtracks, but you can only play one at a time. This means that your commentary and background music need to be mixed together before you make the DVD. Your video editing software should be able to do this. Do you have Video Studio or Media Studio? (I generally use GoldWave ($US 45) for my audio work.)

I've found Audacity is a fantastic audio editor for the price (zero, as it's open source!). It is more powerful in its features than many costing hundreds. Download it at http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ (Windows, with links for MAC and Linux versions) or see the features at http://audacity.sourceforge.net/about/features.
