NEW MEMBER/LAPTOP/SOFTWARE

I found this site by googling PSP Forums. Hopefully as time goes on I can learn somethings about PSP and Video Studio and be able to contribute to the forum.

I finally am getting back to photography, for me. Christmas I got a HP G7-1279dx laptop, Win 7 Home Premium Edition, 64 bit,. I have not had the opportunity yet to take it out of the box and work with it. (Did I hear some groans? Every time I think I'm ready something crops up and the new laptop goes on hold.)

Anyway I haven't installed anything on it yet. I will be getting help with the install. I am one of those folks who is NOT computer friendly.

The options are Adobe PhotoShopElements10/Premiere Elements 10 OR PSP X4 and Video Studio X4 and Fusion PDF (all boxed versions). On the shelf I have PSP8 and PSP X2.

I have yet to use these seriously, primarily because at work we are provided Adobe PhotoShop and I have had a great difficulty moving between PS and PSP. I want to move away from Adobe for this project.

The immediate plan is to install PSP X4, Video Studio X4 and Fusion PDF. I'll also install Roxio 9 (have it on the shelf).

Plans for this configuration are not fancy or elaborate. Hopefully by keeping things simple I'll be able to learn the software and make a profitable business.

My idea is to take pictures for insurance documentation. I'm hoping the X4's and Fusion will suffice.

The idea came about as a result of a friend wanting his gun collection documented for insurance. BUT he doesn't want to take the collection outside of his home and he wants to minimize its exposure at least until after it's been properly appraised.

So with camera in hand and a small table top studio my plan is to go the client's home, photograph his collection, burn a CD/DVD, download to a flash drive. All the data will be initially stored on an external portable drive. When the discs/flash drive is complete then the data on the external drive gets erased before I depart the client's home. Nothing tangible about the collection leaves his home.

Files sizes do not need to be large since large prints won't be necessary. He also has asked about a video slide show, hence the Video Studio.

I'm hoping the two programs will enable me to accomplish this. If all goes well it could turn into a profitable business, jewelry, antiques, etc.

Now I just have to learn to separate Adobe and PSP in the grey matter. Hopefully the install will go well and I'll be able to learn the software. However, I freely admit I'm scared. Most of the posts I've read, by no means have I been able to read all I would like, have been less than encouraging. Maybe not having an extensive background in PSP I'll only have PhotoShop to compare/contrast. At this point in time I'm concerned primarily with simple editing (crop, resize, color correction).

Some of those programs you are/were trying to install will not work under Windows 7, Roxio Easy Media Creator 9 definitely will not install/work nor will Roxio Creator 2009
