Can someone recommend a good analog capture device that works well in X4 or X5
I get all the usual problems, Fail to build capture graph, No Audio device shown in the list and so on.
I have had every version of Video Studio since version 10 and it’s the only one that will work with these capture devices
I am using 3 devices, K World USB 2800, Roxio video capture device USB, and Pinnacle 710 USB
They all work great in Video Studio 10 and won’t work in any version higher than that I was hoping X5 might be the ticket but no luck. So I have a version of 10 just for analog capture
All X Versions work fine with my HD cameras via firewire or mini DV from other camcorders
But will not work at all with USB capture devices ???
Any help would great

Re: analog capture device that works in X4 or X5
I think part of your problem is "historical". An SE version of VS10 was licensed out to a number of capture device manufacturers and tweaked by them to capture from their devices. But the device manufacturers never shared the tweaking secrets with Ulead (who then owned VS) and then corel, who took it over (after a brief ownership by InterVideo). Other device manufacturers like Pinnacle and (I think) Roxio made sure only their software could capture from their devices. Pinnacle in particular was notorious for this. But at the end of the day, Corel software would only work with a small number of capture devices.
As a result, we always recommend here that you use the software which came with the device to capture from it. Then you can open the captured video in later versions of VS for editing.
I realise this is probably not what you want to hear. But it seems rather pointless to go out and buy yet another device when you can already capture with the software which came with them (or VS10).
And don't get too hung up about using one software to capture and another to edit. Many of us here use many more than one program to finish any given video project. I for example use HDVSplit to capture my HDV (rather than VS, though the latter works); I do most of my editing in VS; but I use programs like Xara 3D, Motion Studio 3D and Bluff Titler for my titles; CanopusFX and Adorage for transitions; Sonicfire for background music; Audacity for audio dubbing; and often burn using Nero. And I think nothing about this since you always pick the best tool for a particular function. You will also quickly learn that no one software package, VS included, does all things well. Specialised packages all have their uses.

Re: analog capture device that works in X4 or X5
Hi
just to add my observations.
First I can capture using the latest versions of Video Studio using a USB device
However the later versions of Video Studio have taken away the manual settings that are available using VS10. The capture options being a selection of templates which I find unsuitable for VHS capture, seems like all or nothing when selecting a data rate.
I have an Ezcap device that is provided with its own software providing a better selection of capture settings.
To repeat I do not have problems in using Video Studio to capture via USB.
Just tried X5 for the first time and works without problems. I am using Windows XP?
